The only good show Disney Channel ever made

Back in the 90s and early 00s, Disney Channel had some great movies (Brink being the best) which unfortunately got worse as the years went on, but none of their shows were any good. None of them except So Weird which was AWESOME. The series sucked after the main girl left though and I never got through the last season because of that. I wish they'd release this show on DVD/Bluray.

Basically everything you said is how I feel. This show was one my favorite shows from my childhood and yeah, you're totally right. It was the only thing Disney got pretty much perfect.

You both suck. Disney had a lot of good shows. The Famous Jett Jackson, The Jersey, Even Stevens, Lizzie McGuire, That's So Raven, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, Phil of the Future, Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place, etc. and then there's all their animated shows like The Proud Family, American dragon Jake Long, Buzz on Maggie, Lilo & Stitch, Brandy & Mr. Whiskers, and The Emperor's New School to name a few. Like are you two SERIOUS? You guys are tripping. Some of their recent shows have also been good, but the 1995-2008 era certainly had great stuff besides So Weird.

You are so wrong. Please read my comment above to the first user that replied to you. You both are insane to think Disney had no other good show besides So Weird. Yes, So Weird went there more-so than the other shows did, but don't downgrade them to sucking for not going dark and violent.

Jett Jackson and Even Stevens were alright, but the rest of those shows were pure trash. Especially Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place, and Suite Life.

Isn't this a surprise. Given how long you haven't posted after checking your profile (since late September), I didn't expect you to reply back to me so soon. Thanks for not keeping me waiting as I thought you would. Something told me you would pop back up soon if I replied to you. I almost decided not to reply to you for a moment there since you came off as an off and on type of user here and not here on a regular basis.

Anyway, as I expected there ARE other shows you like, but how can you freaking say that Hannah, Wizards, and Suite Life are bad? All three of those shows are golden and have had huge fanbases and among the channel's most popular shows. You can so be liking them. Now as for the animated one, there's NONE of them you like? How can this be???? Even during the time when Disney was popping in there was no shows then that interested you? What is wrong with you?

So Weird is certainly the best show Disney ever produced. Now, that's not to say that I haven't liked some of Disney's more comedic offerings. I thoroughly enjoyed Lizzie McGuire. It had clever writing and was certainly ground-breaking in its own way. But, the first two seasons of So Weird remain in a class all by themselves. So Weird was the most complex, intense, dramatic, and mature show Disney ever produced. The proposed 3rd season was so dark/mature, in fact, that Disney refused to produce it. Disney instead created their own cheesy, watered down 3rd season that most fans refused to watch. I can't think of another children's show that can make that claim. It was ground-breaking not only in its examination of adolescence and family (ground Lizzie McGuire also tread) but in its exploration of the mythology and lore surrounding death. Again, I can't think of another Disney show that has dealt with similar subject matter. Nickelodeon came close with Are You Afraid of the Dark, but I think Disney upped the ante by exploring death not with weekly campfire stories, but rather a recurring cast.

I feel bad for today's children. The modern Disney channel no longer takes risks or assumes its audience can handle depth. Instead, the network seems perfectly content producing one ridiculous, slapsticky sitcom after another. After tuning in to this weekend's marathon, it's clear that DCOMs have changed as well. Gone are the elements of struggle or realism, the modern DCOMs (much like Disney itself these days) are all shine and no substance.

The Disney Channel had some decent shows (Flash Forward, The Famous Jett Jackson, and Even Stevens), but So Weird was in a league of its own. Of course, Disney had to ruin a great thing.

So Weird was a gem. The Jersey and The Famous Jett Jackson were decent but So Weird was dark and interesting. That is until they replaced Fi with a bubblegum pop typical Disney girl. You may as well have given Lizzie McGuire a supernatural plotline with season 3. Killed a unique show.

Every show after was more the same. That's So Raven could have been stripped of the future vision and it honestly wouldn't have effected the tone. Wizards of Waverly Place was like Even Stevens with magic. None of it stood out, recycled plots with interchangeable characters.

So Weird felt unique and the plots were about the paranormal and how Fi, a not perky ever smiling pop star, handled it. I miss it.

Disney had some decent animated programming though.

I have to agree. Disney had good stuff in the 90s and early 00s, but nothing could hold a candle to the sheer brilliance and wonder that was So Weird. It upsets me a lot when I talk to my peers and find that they don't remember the show or they only have faint memories of it.

With the final season, we more than likely wouldn't have gotten what was planned even if Cara stayed because the writers were already being put off by Disney who said it was way too dark. So for me, they got screwed before they even started--so I wouldn't throw any ounce of the blame on Cara, Alexz, or really the writers.

But yeah, it would be amazing to see a DVD/Bluray release (as well as a soundtrack) with all the fixing. Imagine how badass it would be to see a commentary track with the cast and crew! It's never going to happen, but I'm holding out for a dream that a So Weird movie happens set in the present that incorporates all the elements and themes of what S3 was going to originally have. The cast is still alive, so it sort of works out.
