9 YRS LATER: STILL THE BEST INDIAN MOVIE EVER

9 years have gone by... Still i haven't seen any movie where in the audience have cheered so loud and so involved... It connected with audience in a way no other movie has done till now... Many movies have grossed more than Lagaan but no movie has come close to the excitement and technical brilliance of this movie... Still the best...

Agreed as the best movie of the decade ,and also in a Nutshell if we look at it, top 5 movies of the last decade were:-

1) Lagaan
2) Jhonny Gaddar
3) Kaminey/Omkara
4) 3 idiots
5) Chak de India

Best Indian movie ever? well that needs a lot of thought but if we look at technical brilliance then Sholay and Mother India are ahead of Lagaan..however we can safely say that Lagaan is amongst the Top 3 Indian movie of all time ever....Mughle Azam had great sets as well....but for me its not a top 3 movie of all time...however few of Guru Dutts and Satyajit Ray's movies should also be considered....

Agreed! I know many people say that Sholay is the best Hindi movie there is, but I haven't seen it and never will. Lagaan is a legend!

You should check out Sholay man! Though the story has been done many times in many languages, it's still a great classic to watch. Don't see it just because you want to watch a movie, but appreciate the direction, acting, dialoges, and action(something never before seen at the time in Indian cinema)...at the same time, it's very very entertaining!

Sholay is a classic. Calling it one of the greatest Hindi films ever isn't far fetched at all.

I completely agree - Lagaan IS still the best Indian movie ever made. BUT, do you know what is in second place right on its heels? THE RIVER by Jean Renoir. Some may argue that technically speaking it is not an Indian movie but for it's period in time it evokes the most insinuous and haunting feeling for the sub-continent ever put to film! You can taste the dust in your throat while watching it and feel as the young Indian girl feels. It is a remarkable movie!

anything from Satyajit Ray is way better than those modern indian movies
