i actually have a very polarized veiw of this movie. i found the acting convincing in its subtlety and simplicity. the expressions and tones say so much more than the words could. the tenderness, anger, awkwardness and everything else is perfectly played. the transgendered character portrayal was very accurate. she was so controlled of herself, trying slightly too hard for the voice, outgoing on stage and nervous in life... its very true to the way many transgendered individuals live. the meeting and quick falling is something very common in our commnity. love at first sight is somethiing that seems to be a an almost spiritual belief the portrayal was very close to reality. this movie was the perfect movie for me. the artist living her life the same way i wish i could (dream van included) the disillusioned student dropout, the mother in denile and fear over her surroundings and life, the awkward proceedings of a tg in a lesbian community. it was like a slice out of my own life (except i live in the state of georgia in the us, not in canada) the ending was a bit over happy and unrealistic, i mean honestly coffe boy would have died, but it was nice to have it work out differently. i mean attacks happen all the time, and we dont always die. so it was cool that they did the ending like they did.
overall. i love love love this movie.
it was a welcome repreive from the constant meandering trash poured out by big studios. it didnt feel plastic or popcorn, no glamourous overdramatic portrayals of stereotyping... just simple lives from a crosscut of one community...
