Adore BTC but this one scene really bothers me...

Okay, so you know the scene after Judy sing's her fabtastic 'I'm not a F drag queen' song at the Cats Ass club then tells Francis she's going to the bathroom?
Does it bother anyone else that the hateful woman was ganging up on Judy?
I mean, Isn't the cats ass a gay bar or atleast a gay-friendly bar to begin with??
I was under the impression that it was so my question is,
why on earth would that disgusting hateful homophobic woman be there in the first place?
It just never added up to me..

i thought the woman was drunk. people act different when drunk.

It had nothing to do with being drunk, that scene was mean't to show that even in the lesbian community bigotry can exist, some lesbians don't consider TG lesbians as real women or lesbians and think their just guys in a dress. It's stupid because of course TG lesbians are just as much a lesbian as any other. That scene I think needed to be there as it showed what Judy's song mean't, about people accepting her as a real woman and not a drag queen. That scene upsets me though and I always FF through it as Judy is my favourite character.

They're full of words, of how I want you...how...I love you

reply

I never even thought of that! Thank you for sharing this because that absolutely makes sense that unfortunately indeed there is bigotry in the lesbian community.

The point the scene makes is a true one, however i think that it is so overdramatic, badly written and acted, that it ruins the point and is definitely the worst scene in what is otherwise a good movie.

Transphobia is just as common in gay circles as in straight ones... that's why activists are trying to use the word queer as an umbrella that includes them all

reply

The only reason i dont like that scene was cuz the acting was just AWKWARD o_O

"Hey hows he gonna read that magazine all rolled up like that?...SHI-!!"- A Fly

Thanks for making this clear to everyone. My doctor has a poster hanging in her office that asks what do gays and straits have in common? The answer is transphobia! And yes, Judy is the best character in the film.

reply

Yeah that b1tch was clearly a feminazi of the worst kind. You would think that people who've been oppressed would be more understanding of others, but such is human nature sadly.

You! Obey the fist!
RIP Heath Ledger

This has already been thoroughly answered, but... yeah it's a horrible shame that even within the "10 percent" minority, we can't even stick up for each other some times. I love Judy and it was hard to watch but definitely important-- I've seen things like this with my own eyes.

Transphobia and bi-phobia, sadly exist just as much in the gay community, as homophobia does in the hetero community. To be an alternate sexuality or gender, makes us all one group. But like in any group, there will be slight differences.

It really is a shame when presecuted people don't learn from their own experiences, and themselves become bigoted to others. Bigotry is stupid, no matter who it's from. Judy and Carla showed, transgendered and bi people are just as relevant and valid in the LGBT community, as gay and lesbian members. That is one reason I like BTC, it educates without you realizing it. A movie that entertains and enlightens, that is a good thing.

I'd die for you. I love you. I love you so much it's killing me.

I don't think that the woman who beats up Judy was actually a homophobe. She may fall into that catagory anyway (but if homophobe means what I think it means) it doesn't apply to Judy. I always assumed she was beating on Judy becuase she thought that since Judy used to be man she should use the male bathroom and not the female one. But since Judy sees herself as a woman she was using the female bathroom

Bigots exist everywhere, even in places that we would expect a higher level of tolerance.

A lot of people have misconceptions about transpeople, including the idea that transmen are simply very butch lesbians or that transwomen are just dragqueens. They have been accused of trying to trick people at best, been beaten and murdered.

Within the lesbian community, there are women out there that feel that transwomen are really men trying to male privilege and trying to take over what they have deemed 'their lifestyle'. These types may also see transmen as lesbians that are just trying to find acceptance in cis-male society and that bi-women are just experimenting until they leave women behind to go settle down with men.

What BTC was portraying was a lesbian that cannot wrap her head around any other truth than her own and lashed out at a completely innocent representation of something she hated. In otherwords- a bully.
