Is that slave mentality thing for real?

I never heard of it before this movie. Is that a recognized subject that people write books about? Because if it were true, it would explain a lot.

I asked the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

How can something that is fact be an excuse???? The best thing any person can do when they find their self living in a way that is bound for self destruction is to break the cycle. No one can choose their parents their race etc. etc. And just because your parents may be living in poverty or uneducated doesn't mean one has to be the same. When I think of the slave mentality phenomenon I think of the phrase , What your parents are one will become. But that does not have to be true. That's why educating your self is highly important. Sadly but for any group of people that were treated less than human for hundreds of years such as the ancestors of African Americans to be stolen from your native land, stricken from your language, your culture, your family, sold into slavery, beaten, women used as a baby factory only to have her children stolen, men worked till literal death. Not to mention Jim Crow. If you don't think this wouldn't have a lasting effect on a person you are insane. African Americans were beaten and broken down until they complied with the false teachings of white america. Whites used the bible to justify that blacks were born to be slaves and told them they were animals. Blacks were not even allowed to read. I think eventually one would start to believe this or at least adopt a mentality hence "slave mentality" to cope and or survive. But in todays society there is no excuse everyone especially in America has opportunities to earn an education. However Just like racism still exists today because the same ignorant people pass their ignorant beliefs off to their children.

The difficulty for people denying the possibility of environmental and historical influences on the antecedents of other people shaping and limiting these people, is that in order for them to see this truth, they would have to accept the possibility that they too were shaped by their antecedents experiences and therefore not quite so objective and 'normal' themselves.

Individual empowerment and self respect should be a priority subject for any educational system as not all home environments have such a tradition to pass on.
