Adam + Pete's school friendship

I didn't watch this series whilst on TV but have seen only up to the end of Series 3 on the Teleport TV service now showing on Telewest digital so don't know the story to the end but unless it is explained in the subsequent episodes from what I have seen so far has story line references which would seem to indicate that the friendship between Adam and Pete has existed since school days yet how is this possible given that Adam lived in Portrush and Pete lived sowewhere in England, probably Manchester?

Have I recalled correctly a flashback sequence in Series 1 where Pete, as a child, is picked last to play in goal whilst Adam was the star player or am I mistaken?

Also on the stag excursion to Ulster Adam goes around the houses of his various old conquests which indicates and meets up with the gorgeous Victoria Smurfit plays Adam's long lost love Jane Fitzpatrick in the evening at the pub plus numerous references to past conquests in many episodes which show he did not leave Ulster till he was an adult yet Pete does not seem to have any familiarity with Ulster.

I am no expert on this programme so have not rerun any episodes to make sure my recall and criticism is 100% correct but if someone can confirm or deny my observation I am open to correction...so to speak.

I think the explanation that is most commonly given is that Adam went to school in Manchester and visited Northern Ireland during the summer holidays.

However, in the stag weekend episode he does mention getting off with one of his teachers, so it's probably just an error by the scriptwriters.
