I liked it a bit more than Brokeback
They are different films of course. the gay subject matter is the only thing tying them together (and the rejection by society thing). While I think Brokeback was an important film in hollywood and is poignant, I find the simplicity of Bishonen more appealing. It wasn't as heavily "in your face" as brokeback and overall gives me a more tender feeling in the end. It was more about the emotional world of those who are gay in 80s 90s hong kong and it painted a picture that describes the feelings of being gay in asian society in a very easy to grasp and simply way. Is it just me, or do asian filmmakers make the best gay films?
