Spoilers - what happened to sam?

Ok i just watched this movie, with subtitles which are notoriously not that helpful when it comes to subtlety.. so ok did Sam leave (where did he go?) and why did he leave? Was it because his dad knew? I thought at one point he jumped off the building.. but i dont think he did.. HELP!!!

He committed suicide because he could feel his father's disappointment in him and he couldn't live with that. He died. Jumped off. Went kapoosh. He really wanted his father's approval and you can see their relationship is tight. His father didn't yell at him, but just you know, the disappointment just radiated off from him, Sam couldn't handle that.

What did you think happened to him? Well, I can understand not catching on to what happened right away, the movie was pretty vague at the point of the jump (but do we really want to see him jump off the building?), but it seemed fairly clear enough, I guess. Or maybe it's because I read the manga before watching.

It's been a while since I read the manga (I think it was titled Bishounen no Koi) and I can only vaguely remember it, but I'm sure the jump was included at least a bit more clearly in the manga. It left no question as to what happened to Sam in the end. That was why I kept holding off on actually watching this movie. The manga struck me as super depressing and the movie had me worried that it would upset me even more (I'm the type of person who leans more towards non-drama because I can't stand to feel sad).

But I'm glad I saw it. Enter the Phoenix was a great film and that sort of helped me steel myself for this XD But surprisingly, this movie actually left me happy and quite satisfied. I'm glad Sam loved Jet and I'm glad he let him know it at the end and I'm even more glad Jet understood. Even though it was quite sad, the ending left a little bit of happiness for you. So it wasn't just a complete tear-jerker.

It never at any point in the subtitles says that Sam died. thats why i didnt know.

Is the manga in english? I'd be interested in reading that.

Yup

I guess the movie did give a hint bout the jump.
The narrator mentioned about Sam went to his fav place (which was the top of the building-or is it his apartment?umm), and felt that he did wrong and couldn't come back. After that the camera focused on the street from the top of the building.
It so happened that he wrote the letter to confess his love for Jet..
before killing himself.
It made sense after all.

He dies. It was so sad but BEAUTIFULLY done. Pay attention to the words and the camera. Then revisit the scene when Jet reads the letter and the narrator's words.

Yeah, ending was sad. BUT! I've pretty much immunized myself from all tragedies by reading "as meat loves salt" which is a gay romance novel that will leave you crying for days! Seriously - but on a different note - Kana was hot!
