A somewhat interesting film (spoilers)

I don't understand why the army didn't send any more troops after the first wave was wiped out. Did they decide the island wasn't worth capturing?

I don't understand why all the Japs committed suicide. Perhaps they concluded that they were eventually going to be killed by Moe and Shemp, oops, I mean Ken.

I don't understand why Moe was still carrying Ken around months later. Ken should have been able to walk by then.

This film reminded me of Hell in the Pacific, starring Lee Marvin. If anyone found this film interesting, I would recommend Hell in the Pacific which was much better.

Good questions, all, SB... (Especially that stuff about the group suicide... I thought they woulda done the Hari-Kari thing.. Lol!)
But I was just happy that this was a good little film! It was fun, held my intrest... Yay.

Trust me,

wow, late reply, but this is fun and I will try and answer the questions.

1 - It could have been a 'suicide mission' to being with.

2 - It's called harakiri (something like that), like Samurais.

3 - Ken lost the use of his legs indefinitely. Poor annoying little Ken.

also, I though this might have been a Kubrick like film, or a mediocre attempt at a Kubrick film. Yes, I am aware this film was made in the 60's. :/

do do do de da da da

1 - Not a suicide mission, they were commandos, so an elite recon mission that went wrong.

2 - Initially I thought only one of the was going to commit suicide (seppuku)for dishonor or failing an assignment, like in The Bridge On The River Kwai, but then they all did it. It soon became apparent that it was b/c Japan surrendered, they were informed about the surrender. Part of the samurai bushido honor code, seppuku was used voluntarily to die with honor rather than fall into the hands of their enemies. Obviously Moe & Ken had no idea that America had defeated the Japanese.

3 - Agreed.

It was an interesting but horrible movie. The use of no blanks and sound effects of the rifles added later, pretending there was a recoil or that they were shooting at each other, the ridiculous beach landing... I dunno... could have been better.

Interesting but horrible? It was a GREAT story and well acted. Who CARES about the stupid sound effects. But I guess if you are some kind of 3-D super-hero movie fan I can understand that dumb comment.
