this movie from a Jewish perspective
As a movie buff, this movie had a good script with decent acting and a very low budget for special effects and props; ergo the rifles that didn't quite look like a Springfield, Garand or M-1 carbine and the shoddy sound effects in place of blank ammo.
As a former infantryman: feh!
As a Jew, I was interested to see the subject of Judaism openly addressed; but then again it was based on a short story by a famous Jewish author, Philip Roth.
The fact that Moe wears a mezuzah on a chain is possible, but very doubtful. The military during WWII was pretty strict on "battle rattle" and a mezuzah clanging against a metal dogtag would have been verboten for a combat soldier.
Overall, I'd give this film one matzah ball out of five.
