Lingering questions and an article

Could someone clear this up for me because no matter how many times I watch this movie I still can't figure it out.

Just thinking aloud here: Aberdeen is in Scotland, right? Which is where Kaisa's mother is in the hospital. Kaisa has a Scottish accent because she was raised there? With her Grandmother? Or was she raised in Norway, with her Grandmother? I'm just trying to figure out why Kaisa's got a Scottish accent while her mother has an English accent. Maybe her mom is English and moved to Aberdeen. But didn't she send Kaisa to be raised by her father in Norway?

Also, what does Kaisa mean?

And the article... I came across this review of the film and thought is was apt.

Kajsa (Kaisa) is like "Katy" would be in English. It is a pet form of Kaarina (Katherine).
Aberdeen is on the North Sea in Scotland. I think Kaisa was born and raied there, but her mother is English. Her father worked 2 weeks on and 2 weeks offshore. I think she moved to Norway because he was gone all the time. Many Norweigan people have an American or British accent when speaking English, hence the accent of her father was American.

Thank you! That certainly cleared a few things up. Great movie isn't it?

Yes, I think they lived together in Norway. Kaisa's got the keys of the apartment, and there's a sign at the door written "Tomas & Kaisa"...

In the film it says her mother sent her there when she couldn't control her - it must have been well past formative years as the early scenes are at the house in Aberdeen where, presumably, she grew up.

Shortly after moving to Norway the Norwegian grandmother died - I'd guess mid-teens from the years since he saw her mother and the virginity comment.

How long and at what ages is unclear but we know this:

Kaisa was first raised in Scotland, then moved to her father and paternal gradmother in Norway, her grandmother soon died, end she later moved back to Scotland.
