The reason why the male host never saw the Polkaroo...........

The reason why the male host never saw the Polkaroo is because it was him dressed up as the Polkaroo. The Polkaroo's voice always resembled whatever male host happened to be on the show. It was not hard to figure out. If the show had have at least had children on it I think I would have been alot more interesting. And worth while watching.

Wow! How astute of you to figure that out! You deserve a cookie.

i loved this show when i was little and I never figured out that the guy was in the Polkaroo suit. When i was sixteen or so, my mother told me and I felt so betrayed when I found out! I always thought it was a runnging gag on the show, but never that he was in the suit. Whenever I tell any of my friedns who used to watch the show, they are all always shocked.

I always knew the male host was dressed up as Polkaroo, even as a child...it wasn't that hard to figure out, it didn't make me like the show any less. However, it was a bit annoying with the 'I missed him again! thing after about 5 years
Still it's nostalgic

reply

there are people who didn't figure that out when they were in pre-school?

reply

There was one episode where the female host donned the costume and the male host actually got to chill with Polkaroo. That was messed up.

reply

You people have it all wrong. Polkaroo was just a smooth womanizer. He was there for the women, the women only. The minute he caught wind of the male host coming back, he bounced.

Polkaroo was here, and I missed him again.

reply

I thought this topic was going to be about the moral implications of the male host being Polkaroo. I have been disappointed.

reply

Yeah, I think I figured that out when I was a kid. However, I have always hated Polkaroo - he really freaked me out when I was a kid - the way he snuck up on people and just jumped out from behind a fence or something screaming his name. *Shudder* - him and the original Oompa-Loompas man - freaky.

Yeah, I remember when my Dad informed me of this....it was like telling me there is no Santa Claus!!!! I was heart broken! LOL!

It was so OBVIOUS! How could any kid not figure that s hit out? Especially after the guy would always say "Oh, I missed Polkaroo AGAIN!" That's pretty much the same as saying "I am Polkaroo and that's why I missed him." If children were that stupid, the state of the world today is not surprising.

Of those who figured out the host was Polkaroo as a child, did any of you feel, like I did, that it proved that all adults are two-faced liars? I remember learning this lesson by watching this show, and it haunts me to this day, twenty-five years later. lol.

According to Wikipedia (for what it's worth), Polkaroo was actually played by a separate actor. But that's not as cool as RUNNING INTO THE GUY IN VANCOUVER YESTERDAY! I met Dennis at a grocery store downtown and he doesn't look like he's aged a day. I'm glad to know there are other people who remember the Polka Dot Door because otherwise I'd think I was having really strange flashbacks to a past-life acid trip.

reply

Wikipedia is right. I knew one of the guys who played Polkaroo for a few years.

So I guess all the people that posted saying that people who never figured out who Polkaroo was are morons are actually the true morons. Hmmm...

reply

Haha I know. Everyone who has being saying "Duh!! God you are such a dumbass for not knowing it was the male actor who played him!"- well, actually, that's just a common misconception. A DIFFERENT actor played Pokaroo. So who's the dumbass now?

reply

That doesn't make any sense. It would cost more money to hire someone else.

Also, I had forgotten this show for a long time. I always wondered why the guy didn't meet Polkaroo except for 1 episode. I'm not sure if I thought that it was the guy himself.

Nice show but I don't remember any of it. :)

reply

So? TVO had okay government funding for at least a few years back then. They could hire someone else.

It could have been the male host would do Polkaroo's voice, though. It would be really muffled if it were the suit actor, and not pre-recorded.

reply

Actualy wikipedia states the opposite. That its been misquoted as being played by a seperate actor.. Cheers on meeting Dennis!
