150 Pokemon?

Why does it say that there are 150 pokemon when we know that there are probably over 1000 different kinds?

reply

Not only that but how are Catapee, Medapod and Butterfree not the same pokemon. They and many others are labelled as different pokemon but they are the same. They just evolve.

There are roughly 150 Pokemon in the Kanto Region, where Ash grew up and where the original episodes took place. Then, as the seasons continued, he went on to other regions to capture different pokemon.

There are 5 main regions so far (give or take one due to the show/game differences). They are: Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Unova.

Each region has pokemon that are indigenous to it, just as we have animals indigenous to our continents (Africa has lions, elephants, zebras, etc.. North America has none of those; we have bears, moose, and whatever. Asia has pandas, certain snakes, tigers and so on and so on).

Kanto has the original 150 we know, the 3 starters being Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squritle.

Johto has Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile.

Hoenn has Treecko, Torchic, and Mudkip.

Sinnoh has Turtwig, Chimchar, and Piplup.

Unova has Snivy, Tepig, and Oshawott.

The show started by saying that there are 150 Pokemon. And that is true; there are 150 Pokemon... in Kanto, where we started the show. But now that we've been to different regions, we know that there are more than 150 in the Pokemon world.

The show was always suppose to introduce new Pokemon though, I mean I think it was HoHo? That Ash saw in the first episode an that wasn't in the original 150.
