why do people put up with him?

This is one self obsessed crusty old fart. For starters look at the intro to his show, you'd think with all the famous stars he's had on in the past decades they'd play an intro with clips of mohammed ali, woody allen, george best, oscar winners etc, but know its random shots of him grinning smugly. His show is entirely based on him, he always ensures his questions are longer than any answers he gets and how close do his knees have to be to the guests? And finally the music he has is just crooners, crooners, crooners, crooners, jazz bimbos and crooners.

They can't show clips from previous interviewees like Ali, Woody Allen, George Best etc... because the show was owned by the BBC at that time. After ITV stole Parky away I have serious doubts that the BBC would let ITV use clips of their programme.

I suppose they could use shots now of people he has interviewed whilst at ITV but there wouldn't be as big a selection of greats seeing as how he has only been there for about four years.

Personally I like Parky. If he has a decent guest that he has a good rapport with then the interview can be very entertaining.

Goodness knows!

He is long past his best. I think a real turning point was Woody Allen. Since then he seems frightened to probe beyond the superficial in case it antagonises the guest.

Look at YouTube and remember him at his best in the 70's.
