Most outdated

This has to be the most outdated documentary ever based on all that happened after it came out!

reply

I don't see it that way. The story still stands as it does in the film- a film which depicts the humble beginnings of the two biggest OS software companies. Some things may have come to light about those years since then, but the story still stands as well as it did when it came out. The only issue is that there's now room for sequels- a Part II, Part III and Part IV.

My #3 key is broken so I'm putting one here so I can cut & paste with it.

Complete agree.

(It's not actually a documentary at all, as the original poster stated.)

reply

I disagree.

The film is about the origin of the personal computer and the GUI OS as ubiquitous, not the strange, cult-like company vs. company obsession so many people seem to carry.

It's not outdated, it's an interesting perspective from the past now that things have changed drastically

Absolutely incorrect. When the movie was made it representing the history and personalities involved up to that point in time. Since that time, I doubt Jobs himself changed all that much.

I used to be an Apple fan back in the early days of the Apple and Apple II etc. simply because they were a great product and the first real PC.. created by Woz and not Jobs .. I left the fold when Woz left apple and have never had any time for the company or products since.

The die hard apple ZEALOTS will bitch and moan about this film because it shows that Jobs did not invent nor create anything and simply stole other people's ideas and work, just as Gates did.. These ZEALOTS cannot deal with the truth about their messiah.

I Completely, totally disagree! The movie manages to expose some of the most interesting aspects of the real truths about the way Apple and Microsoft actually were created via fraud, lying, cheating and most of all, shameless piracy and thefts of intellectual rights of others. Most people still don't know today, that neither Apple or Microsoft invented absolutely nothing of their own in the beginning. The world's first PC with Graphical User Interface, Mouse and Ethernet networking were invented by Xerox, who according to their former employees, were stolen or taken without their rights never taken into consideration. And most importantly, while IBM did invent the current PC standard, it failed to protect the architecture, which came to be known as "IBM Clone" - and into which all PC computers are still based today. History can never be outdated!

I have heard, seen and read about the "piracy" from Xerox and it really wasn't piracy. The people running the show were concerned about the bottom line for that fiscal year.... not "putting a dent in the universe". Steve Jobs had a vision on par with the people at Xerox PARC. Just like the guy from the Seattle Computer Company that sold his OS to Paul Allen for a measly 50k. It's not fair to complain when you have the creativity but can't match it with the drive to change the world. Jobs knew how to do that - and he couldn't create jack shit. It's kind of brilliant when you think about it.

reply

Nah, it's not outdated because it covers the time period that it fits in.

When Bill Gates is on the screen looking down at Steve Jobs as if he is "big brother" it was as relevant back then as it is today, without Bill Gates & Microsoft support, Apple Computer would have withered away and died. Not many people realize that Microsoft propped up Apple in its time of great need, and just a few short years later, Apple rolled in iTunes and iPod, propelling it back to the mainstream technology conversation.
