Is it just me or..

Is it just me or someone also had the impression that Kate Beckinsale looks a little weird as alice? She looks way to grown up the character I think...I love Kate Beckinsale but I dont think this was exactly her best character in a movie if you know what i mean...

In Alice Through the Looking Glass, Alice is an adult.

In the book - ALice is a child - caught indoors on a snowy day.
She is playing with her white kitten - and drowsily talks to it.
She falls asleep and the adventure begins....

ALice is a child in both books.

In the movie (as in the book) she says "she's seven and a half exactly".
My belief is that the producers wanted a grown up but to justify it they had her "dream" she was a child.

Although she is supposed to be a child in the original books I think it was an interesting touch to make Alice an adult dreaming of being a child. One of the theories of the meaning of the books is that it is a young girl growing up and trying to make sense of the madness of the adult world. Apart from this bit of artistic lib in this film, this version is the most faithful adaptation in terms of book to script and the overall feel of the stories. A lot of Alices dialogue in the book is very reflective and kinda mature for an 7-8 year old. I dont think a real child actress could have got that idea across. So I think Kate did an excellent job.

And thank god it didnt keep breaking into song like many other versions!!! Managed to capture the balance of weird humour, trippyness and darkness perfectly.

"She's a fat cat, full of smack, and a slave to the sweat"

Yes, extra trippy, and Kate does an excellent 7.5 year old.

Yeah right--Kate B was pregnant at the time!! An excellent PREGNANT 7.5 YEAR OLD!!

At first I did not know who the actress was. I really thought she was about 15 of 16. So I was surprised reading it was Kate Beckinsale.
Apart from that she did a good job playing the role as she did.
