Is it just me or...

does Eliza get really bratty as the series goes on? I mean in season one she seems like an average 11 or 12 year old, but later on she gets really mean and bossy. She doesn't seem like that early on.

I seem to remember thinking the same thing.

Ya I was about 12 when I saw this show and just loved her. It never really connected with me that she had a sucky attitude, besides what my parents would say about her, but now I am so much older and it is like I can't stand her at times.

I was around Eliza's age when I first watched this series, and I loved animals, so I identified with her a lot (and envied her ability to talk to animals and that she got to travel so much). But now, years later, I watched some of the episodes again and realized just how bratty she is, and sometimes, it goes beyond just the fact that, "She's 12, only a kid, give her a break". She's constantly putting herself in danger, disobeying her parents over and over again, and, at times, has no regard for the countries she's in. For instance, in the episode where she wants to save the aye-aye, she almost tells the locals, to their faces, that their superstition about the aye-aye being bad luck is wrong. Now, of course, even now, I agree with her and I'm all for saving innocent animals, but even so, you'd think her parents would have taught her to respect people's cultural beliefs even if she didn't agree with them. Honestly, she's a pretty weak, sometimes even unlikeable main character.

Nevermore!

I often liked the Debbie subplots better than the Eliza ones.

Nah, you just grew up :P

I've never fooled anyone. I've let people fool themselves.

It's not you. She does become really b!tchy sometimes even for a 12 year old. Now that I remember better, I'm realizing how reckless she was sometimes. I mean, Eliza was supposed to be this uber-nerd when it came to animals yet some episodes she had no clue how they behaved in the wild. Some were dangerous predators and she wanted to meet them expecting to pet their heads!

Yes I thought all of this through and I do have no life. Thank you for reminding me.
