Maigret's voice dubbed?

Besides having that dead air, studio sound quality when he spoke and also a few sync problems, it just didn't sound like Cremer? Anybody else think so? And, if so, why?????

reply

It's Cremer's voice. I've seen him in movies also and the voice is his.

I'm on season 7 of the Maigret with Bruno Cremer. It is in French with English subtitles. I love the series! And, I think I'm learning a little French! 

I've settled into a daily habit: one Maigret episode per day, schedule permitting. I'm so hooked on him, I don't know what I'll do when there are no more episodes. I found that the rival series, the one with Jean Richard suffered from bad acting overall; the actors were B list or C list and no fun to watch.

I'm also reading the books. Those wonderful Tout Simenon collections at the library near me.

What "rival series"? I also liked the Michael Gambon Maigret.

reply

There is a series starring Jean Richard which ran late 60s to late 70s; you can find them on Youtube (Les enquetes du commissaire Maigret).

I don't know the Gambon series.

reply

I know Simenon hated Jean Richard in the role, but I've never had issue with any of the performances in them (it is just a tv series at the end of the day and being high-profile is no indication of ability). The B&W episodes in particular have a wonderful sense of authenticity and of Paris that few of the others do. The Cremer and Gambon series are okay but both suffer from being period dramas shot in Eastern Europe, whereas the Richard versions are the real deal so to speak.

If you go to my page, you'll find a list of Maigret episodes I've watched. I wrote about several episodes from the Richard series, and I was not kind to that actor. There is one that is essential for any Maigret lover: the one with Suzanne Flon (Maigret et le corps sans tete).
