Bad News About Possible DVD Release

It looks like legal issues with the Yoshi character are holding up a dvd release for SMW. Here's a quote from Shout employee Brian Ward:

As for Yoshi, I'm afraid there's really nothing else to say. I'm only told that there are legalities behind the character. My guess--and it really is only a guess, so no one read into it--is that the character isn't entirely owned by Nintendo. If that's the case, it would require additional sign offs for home video distribution. Until we know for sure and everything's taken care of, I'm afraid Captain N & The New Super Mario World will only be a title that we sit back anxiously awaiting release.

How will we solve the problem about releasing Super Mario World on DVD with all 13 episodes that I want to get to complete my Super Mario cartoon trilogy of Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, Super Mario Bros. 3, and Super Mario World? Will Super Mario World be released alone with 13 episodes on DVD? Please let me know. Thank you.

Super Mario Brothers 3 is being released in June. It's a 3-disc set with all 26 episodes. It looks like Shout has been releasing the sets in order (Super Mario Brothers Super Show first and then Super Mario 3), but legal issues with the Yoshi character may hold up a dvd release of Super Mario World.

Yoshi was always troublesome in the cartoon. But I'm sure the cartoon will get released sometime later this year.

I wonder why Yoshi isn't fully owned by Nintendo. I think he still appears in new Mario video games (I don't think he was in The New Super Mario Bros., but still...).

No he didn't appear in the "New Super Mario Bros." but I think that game was kind of based off like the original one, when you lost a mushroom or fire flower, still made that same sound, when you lost it. Looking through the game, I don't think Yoshi would have a point to be in the "New Super Mario Bros." there wouldn't really be anything for him to do in that game (IMO.) Since he really didn't have anything to do, I think that's why he probably wasn't in the "New Super Mario Bros."
