LOTR Soundtrack website - announcement

well folks, they say all good things come to an end and it seems two are ending this year.

If you haven't seen the notice at the top of the page, these boards are shutting down. I want to say I've really enjoyed talking LOTR on the three trilogy movie boards and there have been some really insightful and in depth conversations here. I've made a few friends here, such as the internet allows.

But the second closing is my LOTR soundtrack website, A Magpie's Nest. http://amagpiesnest.com/

I was holding off on making more public announcements for a few more weeks but we don't have a few more weeks.

Spread the word about the website closing down. Questions are probably best directed to me personally. I figure anyone who's a fan of the site knows how to get ahold of me. :-)

For such is the way of it: to find and lose, as it seems to those whose boat is on the running stream.

I'll miss you guys.

I have mostly lurked for years and admired yours and others' posts over the years. This is so unbelievably sad that IMDb is killing our community. Where will you be primarily posting now for LOTR-related stuff? TORN?

I was very active on TORn for a number of years. It was a really great community for those years but it struggled to absorb the more virulent elements that invaded (and I'll use that word) the boards when the Hobbit movies were in their heyday. I took a couple of prolonged breaks and, over time, most of the people I'd bonded with moved on. (Sadly, two have died)

Now, it's mostly just game threads on the movie boards and the Reading Room has so many blowhards and rules I don't bother. My last break was, in my mind, a final one. And what I miss from my days at TORn, isn't there anymore.

I've had more meaningful conversations here over the last three years then I was having during that time at TORn. I think it was because we got new viewers asking questions from a fresh point of view. I loved those posts. I often thought about things in a new way. It's hard to do that when you're talking only with folks who have been reading, studying, and talking Tolkien for years.

So, I guess this is the end of my Tolkien conversations. I have friends who love Tolkien as much as I do with whom I correspond on a regular basis but we aren't talking about Tolkien anymore.

I knew ends would come to my passion of Tolkien. The shutting down of my site was a massive end. And this is a fairly significant end, as well. I think the number of regulars might be small here, but it's a valuable resource that I doubt will coalesce anywhere else. Like the Elves, the online communities of Tolkien are fading.

bumping to keep this from falling too far down the page.
