I'm with you on this. I have doubts that Jeff was real as well. Some more points:
1. There were extended scenes where Jeff wasn't around. He would just kinda disappear for a while - during which times Emilio would not do anything too crazy.
2. One of the reasons for the break-up with his wife is that "She didn't know me". It appears like he could have a darker/crazier side that comes out every now and again!
3. The whole scene with the shrink directly suggested that Jeff may not be real.
4. How would Jeff be able to get into the V.V.I.P rooms? It is more likely that, as a celebrity layer, Emilio could get in himself.
In fact, all of the events of the night have to be questioned as to what really happened. Are we seeing things the way they actually happened or the way the main character was imagining them happnening? Some suspect events:
1. The "Somebody to love" song break was really cool - that could be blammed on the drugs though.
2. The scene on the roof top where the girl keeps referring to "finding god". The helicopter and cops single him out for being arrested. Very unlikely.
3. When he is arrested, the cops in the car clearly indicate that he is the only one arrested because he knew better and has hope of being turned around. How do they know who he is and why he is different from the others?
You could almost say the entire night was - he got kicked out, got drunk at a bar, bought some drugs on the street, freaked out a bit on drugs, and fell asleep on a tree at a golf course while imagining the specific events we see in the movie. When he woke up, he could blame all of this bad behavior on Jeff.
This was one of the reasons I thought this movie was cool because it went beyond a typical "guys night out" adventure flick.
