love this movie

You know what? I love this movie. However, nobody has posted on these boards. This is probably my favorite film ever and has been since it was released. I first saw this when I was younger and it had come out on VHS. I am originally from Kenya, but I haven't been there for many years now. So whenever I miss Africa, I just watch this movie. The story of Kuki and her family is truly an inspirational story that everyone should know. Although no one will probably ever read this: I highly recommend this film.

Don't cry because it's over; smile because it happened.

Wow...I have replies to my post. I'm actually amazed. Woah...thanks.

Anyway, alot of my American friends tell me that they want to go to Africa and, honestly: everyone should. Just not right now; things back there aren't too good. I watching vh1 out of sheer boredom the one day and "Tracking The Monster" came on. Part of it was about the AIDS epidemic in Kenya and made me cry so much! I love Africa with all my heart and often really do 'dream of Africa,' but its so different in those places than where I was. Everyone tells me I was "lucky to get out; I don't think so though. I should be happy I'm not there, but I want to be there still so badly. This movie is helpful to me when I miss Kenya. It confuses me that no one really posts on here, though. Haha...

You were born an original. Don't die a clone.

I am glad I was not the only one confused in that.

Now that I think of it, I had really ought to reread her books. Its been a while since I last have. I should go do that now. Bye for now!

I spent a week in Nairobi on my way to live in Reunion Island, and one day I will go back to get my heart, because I am sure I left it somewhere in Kenya. What an enchanting place. You almost can feel the rhythm of the land. The reddish soil and the green of the foliage are shades that defies description. The people are truly human in so many ways, knowing life intimately on terms that we from Disneyland (the West) can not imagine. Both of my daughters have decided to go there after finishing their schooling, and I am sure I will be right along behind them. Oh, and by the way, I loved the film too. Perhaps not from a cinematic or artistic viewpoint, but just because it shows much of what I remember.

I saw this film on a channel with commercials and some parts were probably cut so I'm wondering if she ever opened the egg. I would appreciate if someone could tell me, thanks.

reply

haha, i don't remember anything about this movie, other than i made out during the whole movie.

Watch Veronica Mars Wednesday nights on UPN @ 9pm EST/8pm CST

I just watched the DVD and she didn't ever open the egg. I honestly wondered whether the director just forgot about it or left that scene on the cutting room floor. The movie seems choppy enough to make that conceivable! Anyway, no egg.

lol thanks for the info.

I was flowing through the channels the came upon this movie and started following it and also fell in love. I don't understand why it rates so low. I thought Kim's performance did not deserve a razzi by any measure.

I also have always loved this movie, and do not understand critics in the least.

"Run, you clever boy."

I like this movie also and cannot understand why other people have such a problem with it. I liked it better than "Out of Africa".

I really like this movie. I'm a film nut, this is one of maybe ten I need to watch every few years. It's a spectacular production!
