Espresso Bongo

I've made a few espressos in my life, none were fantastic but neither of them made a guy puke up.

How bad an espresso can America's greatest-ever espresso maker make an espresso? Bad enough for a guy to puke his guts right up?

I'll answer your question with a question:

What's the photo for?

Hi offramp_tavanipupu,

Was your misspelling of the old play and subsequent movie intentional? Cliff Richards! Yikes! I may find some link to MD but had not heard of the film "Expresso Bongo" before. I note that "expresso" is not the same as "espresso" but they are often mixed up. Are you from the UK? Expresso bars? Amazon has some Cd's available but apparently it is edited from the orignal film release. I found there are some more recent Bluray's in Europe. The funny thing is I understand the original play was a witty satire on the music industry but the film lost much of the satirical elements and became a pale imitation that was more a showcase for Cliff Richards. Fun stuff that I find fun to relate to MD but expect another bit of serendipity.

As for my take on MD and the espresso sequence...
I see MD mainly as a symbolic artwork portraying concepts related to our own repetitive confusion regarding the true paths (Rhodes) to happiness/contentment/peace etc. Desire leads to suffering. The characters/scenes/locations all symbolic and might be imagined as abstract representations of processes occurring inside of "the mind", portraying a cycle of dream/desire resulting in suffering. That is about as condensed as I can get it.

In this POV, the espresso scene illustrates an inability to ever ultimately satisfy the powerful (dark) forces of "desire" despite our (misdirected) efforts or normal expectations. ("What was it last time/try the next one"(=repetitive cycle)..."He won't like it"..."we'll see"..."That is the finest espresso in the nworld." "Sheit!." Luigi's dissatisfaction is one of several symbols of the dark powerful force of desire that cannot be satisfied.

Few viewers seem interested in exploring this POV but I find it lots of fun and remarkably fulfilling! Like Miricle Whip! (Wassup...)

PS I do love those old films like Espresso Bongo. I have been able to find some scenes on youtube and hope to be able to see it all one day.

Dear oldgoldtop, well spotted. I am indeed from the UK. The Cliff Richard/Lawrence Harvey film is well-known over here and the title has reinforced the dual spellings of expresso and espresso.

I was going to title this thread Expresso Bongo but I knew that few would understand the misspelling.

You would have done, though!

Here is another thing about the espresso: Is the fat waiter the espresso maker? Or is the espresso maker off screen? I haven't seen the film in a while so I can't be sure.

Thanks for your very interesting comments about dreams and desire!
