Favorite quote of the movie
Alvin Straight: You don't think about getting old when you're young... you shouldn't.
I really love this quote and how he says it in the movie....it's really true and displays Straights character nicely!!!

I really love this quote and how he says it in the movie....it's really true and displays Straights character nicely!!!
I've fought in the trenches in WWII, why should I be scared in an Iowa cornfield?
I'm the Patron Saint of treason, that's the reason.
The scene where he befriends the young hitch hiker...."What do you have to eat? Weiners" "Weiners"?
I don;t know why, but I can take that quote a thousand places!
I liked the one at the John Deere dealership, when Alvin and the salesman are having this straight-forward, serious discussion about the tractors, and then-
Salesman: Alvin you always struck me as a smart man...
Alvin: Well, I appreciate that.
Salesman: ...until now.
And they both laugh.
Paraphrasing here because it's been a long time since I've watched this charming movie: Alvin is in the hardware store and requests:
ALVIN: Let me have one of those grabbin' things.
OWNER: What do you want it for?
ALVIN: Grabbin'.
The "Grabbin'" quote is my favorite too.

That's one of my favorite scenes too.
shareFave quote is when Alvin is asked what's the worst part about being old, and he replies "the worst part of being old is rememberin' when you was young" - so poignant.
sharewhen he mentions putting sticks together and you cant break them as easy as a stick on its own, regarding it as a metaphor to family. beautiful line, wish i remembered it word for word.
EZ the man with two legs
The tied up bundle of sticks is also the fascist symbol,so there could be more to it than that.
shareFor comedy my favourite moment is near the beginning when Alvin is discovered on his back on the kitchen floor, his next door neighbour is in a fluster trying to call 911 and says: "We've got a stricken man here!"
Then the old fella just goes: "Alvin, are you stricken?"
Don't know why but something about that had me in stitches.
me too, Saul!
share"Crimenetto it's Alvin. And he's drivin' his lawn mower!"
And the scene when Rose and Dorothy are enjoying a nice glass of milk and potato chips...."What kind of pickup?" "A Ford"
I loved the lines when he was getting his mower fixed.
"Are you charging me for good or for new?"
Love all the lines you guys mentioned
For me i like the 'bundle of sticks' quote and love how the girl left the bundle of sticks next morning. I wonder if it was a real depiction in Alvin's real life cause it's beautiful.
I always thought he said...:
"You don't think about gettin old when you're young...you SHOULD"
maybe I can check drew's script-o-rama
"What's the number for 911 ?"
Frank Booth: You stay alive, baby. Do it for Van Gogh.
Yeah, some fantastic quotes here, some emotional some funny.
I cracked up with:
- The twins are sayin' its gonna cost about $250
- That's very expensive!! *Look woried* But hey, they're twins.
or something like that.. Anybody knows the correct lines?
------------
- He moves his lips when he reads. What does that tell you about him?
Danny Riordan : "I .. I ... talked to the Olsen twins. And they estimate it would cost around 250 $ to get your mower fixed."
Alvin : "That's twice what it oughta be. I guess it's because they're twins, huh ?"
Both laughs ...
