maybe i am reading too much into this movie, but I thought that the movie was about our lives, and our deaths. That we "return" to the sea also when we die, and that something remains of us after death, our souls. This little girl has to understand love, and loss, and eternity. Then again, maybe this is just a story about merpeople....

I haven't seen the movie(yet) but I remember in the original story of "The Little Mermaid" (before it was Disneyfied), the merpeople were destined to turn into sea salt foam upon their deaths. I"m looking forward to seeing the movie (I noticed the title when I was searching thru the dvr guide) and wondering if its in any way inspired by the HCA fairy tale.
