I purchased this movie at a 7-11 a few years ago and I was wondering did Amanda's parents ever find out that she was hanging out with these people and how did they handle it?
shareI agree it was a GORGEOUS movie!! I loved mermaids since I was little and this is definitely up there with Splash. Tegan and the rest of the cast did an amazing job, you really start believing that sea people exist lol
shareJust saw this movie on ION TV and thought it was wonderful. I was especially touched and moved to tears when Hume Cronyn's character went "back to the sea". I also disagree with the first poster saying that Disney did a much better version. To me it was much more realistic without the "fins and tails".
shareYes, yes, yes, I loved this portrayal of "mermaids." It was just eerie enough at the beginning to make it seem mystical and magical, but almost believable as the movie went on. I also just watched it on ION TV and I must have been feeling especially emotional that night, b/c I was BAWLING when John McCray went back to the sea. And, to answer the first poster, I don't think her parents ever found out.
shareI don't think they knew the full extent of it, but they knew she wasn't getting into bad trouble.

I've seen quite a few mermaid movies, and though I only gave this one a 6/10, it did beat all the other mermaid movies I've seen. The elderly couple were very well played.
