voice of Shaggy

Why didnt Casey Kasum voice Shaggy in this one? I checked out his IMDB page and it appears he's always done Shaggy before and after this feature. I havent seen this one yet, but I noticed Kasum wasnt the voice of Shaggy. Does this other guy sound like Casey?

reply

Yes, Billy West sounds like Shaggy. He's a good voice actor. He is Fry on Futurama, the red M&M from the commercials, the Honey Nut Cheerios bee, and a lot more.

reply

The voice of Shaggy is Scott Innes.

What I want to know is WHY wasn't Casey Kasem the one doing the voice of Shaggy when he's done just about every other single Scooby Doo cartoon in existence?

reply

um, idk.

but he didn't do most of the scooby cartoon MOVIES, that was scott innes.

reply

No, Billy West did the voice of Shaggy for Zombie Island.

reply

FINE!

but scott innes did most of the other ones.

besides, who really cares who does the VOICES of the characters?

as long as the SHOW is still on, it doesn't matter.

reply

Obviously the poster cared. Thats why they posted. Just trying to help.

reply

ok, that's true.
But Seriously, does anybody else care who does the voices?
who does the voices doesn't really matter.
As long as they sound like the original peoples and the show is still on, I'm good.

According to Billy West, Casey Kasem didn't want to do Shaggy in this film because he was a strict vegetarian and he got offended when he sees Shaggy eating a hot dog or any type of meat. Coincidentally, Billy is a vegan too.

In this particular movie, I believe the issue was the shrimp gumbo.

Kasem became a vegetarian during the TV run. Prior to that, Shag and Scoob could be seen scarfing all sorts of food; Kasem asked for and was given assurances that the characters would only be given non-meat snacks henceforth. He knew a how many kids watched these shows, and understandably didn't want the characters promoting behavior that he was morally opposed to. The producers thought it was no big deal (he wasn't demanding that the characters become vegetarian to make some kind of statement, just that they not be shown eating meat).

Apparently, the producers of this movie were in love with their shrimp gumbo. When Kasem read the script, he asked that the signature dish they're served be changed to a vegetable gumbo as a condition of his participation. They said no, Kasem said, "K. Bye!" and they had to find another Shaggy.

Must have been some *reallY* good animated shrimp gumbo.

That's pretty stupid considering the fact that on the original show Shaggy eats Salomi and ham. I'm pretty sure he's eaten tons of meats in the old cartoons where he voiced him. So I don't buy that reason.

Billy West's voice annoyed me throughout the whole movie. It just sounded off.

reply

It did sound off, but it's better than Frank Welker's version of Scooby Doo. I love Welker, but he's terrible as Scooby Doo.

Lets put a SMILE on that face!
