What is with the bathroom buckets?

What the hell? Is that for real? Can someone explain it to me please and thanks.

They only had one outside toilet. Its working class 1971, with all those kids it was easier to go in buckets.

I didn't realize that still existed in English cities in 1971. In American cities, I believe almost all apartments had indoor toilets by then. Single room occupancy buildings may have had bathrooms down the hall, serving several units, but those were indoors too.

Yes. I was born in the late 60s. The house my parents rented only just got converted to have an inside toilet when I was an infant, so I have never had to use a bucket myself, though in some areas that was still the practice. We still had the building outside that had housed the outside toilets, and used that to store garden tools in...

Ah, hell diddly-ding-dong crap!

In America all apts had indoor plumbing decades before 1971.

I was surprised at this as well. I think I would wait my turn to use a real bathroom.
