Commercial release

I remember watching this series as a little kid. The big kid is very curious to see if it would still have it's original charm. But alas there doesn't seem to be a commercial release, which is strange. The fact that it lasted for about 9 years should merit one.

As a police series it was original. Compare it to contemporary shows like Starsky and Hutch or Streets of San Fransisco and this show stands out. Not because of plots (good guys chase bad guys, good guys win) but the fact that is situated in a time and place that is rapidly changing although the protagonists aren't aware of this. After all, WW One was still a couple of years away, a car was still a novelty and new and strange technology. And most of the police techniques that we take for granted now were then just being developed employed.
The criminals are not necessarely bankrobbers and murderers (although they pop up) but more related to the era. So, Communists, Anarchists, spies and other threats to to the French Republic are plenty. It was a brilliant show and for sometime the last thing I saw on television before bedtime.

So, for the sake of history, television's and mine, a commercial release would be appreciated. And welcomed by yours truly.

The complete series has been released on several DVD boxsets in France (French audio only, no subtitles), the picture and sound quality is decent.
