Did Sports Night Actually END??

I've been considering picking up the DVD of Sports Night, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me if it ENDED or if it has a lingering final episode?

I've seen several shows (HBO in particular) that have been cancelled prematurely, and thus we are left without a conclusion to the story. Can anyone tell me if this is the case with Sports Night?

Thanks!

It has an ending, of a sort. You're not really left hanging, more like longing to continue along with them. But the final ep is one of the best final eps ever, IMO. Literally gives me goosebumps and brings a tear to my eyes everytime I watch it.

The final episode is vaguely ambiguous, yet quite satisfying at the same time. When it was being written no one was sure of what the fate of the show would be, so it was structured in such a way that if they did get a renewed or moved to another network then they could easily begin where they left off, but if it really was the end (which, sadly, turned out to be the case) the major story lines were tied off reasonably neatly.

Thank you both for that. It helps a lot. I just didn't want to pick up a book with the last chapter ripped out of it, you know?

That's good to know. Thanks.

Nope. They left it wide open with the hope they would have another season. No ending to any of the characters or their relationships.

That's simply not true. That was clearly built to be a probable ending. What wasn't resolved? Casey and Dana didn't end up together, but Sorkin ditched that plot mid-Season 2 anyway.

reply

He did have Jeremy and Natalie get back together and left the door open for Dan and Rebecca.

They knew it was a last episode, and they through a huge "F You" to ABC in there as well. The "anyone who can't make money off of Sports Night should get out of the business of making money" line was a complete and total diss to ABC for horribly mismarketing and mismanaging the show.

ah hell, it was the final episode anyway, why not throw that in. i would have. HOWEVER..i have heard "rumors" of 4 - 5 mini-sodes(made that word up)of Sports Night. they're just waiting on an answer from a network.
