Does Jeremy bug anyone else?

He reminds me a LOT of George Constanza. Maybe it's his voice? I'm not sure. But he is probably my least favorite of the main characters. Anyone else agree?

Nope. Malina is fantastic in SN. Of course, I suppose it would be no great insult to be the least of this incredible ensemble. Jeremy is effectively the narrator of the show--at least for the first season--as he writes to his sister.

BTW, George Costanza is the heart of Seinfeld, just as Larry David (same character, same creator) is on Curb Your Enthusiasm. The point is to make you laugh--and cringe.

nope. loved Jeremey. didn't really have a 'least' favorite main character.

I just finished watching this on Netflix...and yes, he bugs me too. I LOVE the actor & think he did a great job, but the character of Jeremy really bugs me...and personally, I think he's a little mean. He's one of those guys who's only a little attractive but VERY dorky, so he compensates w/a snobby 'tude...he's likable AT FIRST and then just becomes annoying. He thinks that b/c he knows so many mundane facts, it shouldn't matter that he's incredibly awkward. I mean, seriously, he immediately snags Natalie (super cute) then a PORN STAR? And HE is the one that can't commit to either??? Sounds like a writer was living out some sort of dorky fantasy.

reply

I loved Jeremy, as with the rest of the sn crew.
Yes, he was geekey, but I found him charming, a little like he had to stand up for himself all his life so he was used to it, and more of a real guy than others....wouldnt most guys not be sure of dating a porn star?

He is my favorite, he is amazing at the sorkin rapid fire talk. He was also great in ww. Another very sorkin actor.

* the knowing mundane facts part.....thats his job. Not all of them, not about the weather or greek or latin, but yes with the sports, and a fact person normally doesnt just know things about one subject, they know things about many different subjects.

When was it ever established that the problem in his relationships with Natalie and the porn star was that he couldn't commit?

There was never an issue of commitment between Jeremy and Natalie. Hell, he was willing to go with her to Galveston, Texas, even though that would mean giving up the job of his dreams, and living in a place he'd be pretty much guaranteed to hate, where he'd never be able to get a job that would make him half as happy as the one he had at Sports Night. That doesn't sound like a man who isn't committed.

Jeremy and Natalie broke up because they wanted to lead different kinds of lives. She wanted to be part of the hipster scene in New York City, and he wanted to be a homebody. While he was a bit of a jerk about her desire to hang out with that crowd, I ultimately take his side more than hers, because why couldn't she just go to those parties without him? It was as she thought it was his duty to escort her - even though he wouldn't fit in at all.

With the porn star, she dumped him because she needed to be with a guy who was completely comfortable with her job. He tried his best, even though it was obvious that he wasn't, and he finally admitted that he wasn't. That doesn't make him a jerk, nor does it mean that he thought he was better than her.

Jeremy bugs the holy hell out of me and I cannot care less about his storylines. It's the same character Melina took to the West Wing. But that character works in the west wing. He makes Sports Night very difficult to get through. He was brutal in the pilot. Because of this alone, Sports Night is my least favorite of the 3 Sorkin tv shows.

reply

Nope, I like Jeremy too. I think he and Natalie are great together. I believe in the opposites attract thing and here it just works. Sure, they had their ups and downs and Jeremy does have his downsides (hey, he's human) but he's a very likable character.

All of the actors do a fantastic job, but if we're talking about which character in real life would bug me it is Dana. I'm talking if I existed within the world of Sports Night and knew these people. I'm surprised Casey chases after her for as long as he does. I would've tired of her long before he did. Of course I wouldn't have put up with the dating plan from the beginning. I would've told Dana that she can either have me now or never. Screw the dating plan.

At first he was ok, but then i found myself dreading his scenes and hearing his voice-overs. I thought the show wasted way too much valuable time focused on his relationship with Natalie. And his attitude was just so appalling, I wanted to knock him off his almighty horse with his ridiculously pretentious attitude. I personally love george costanza so I would have to strongly disagree in finding any resemblance between the two characters. George was self deprecating and Jeremy was self-(can't think of the word, but polar opposite of deprecating).

Self-aggrandizing. :)

Yeah, the character had way too many hangups. I think Natalie and her complete emotional unavailability drive me more insane, however (though I like the character).

I never had a least favorite character and I watched the series I don't know how many times over the last 10 years. I recently started watching it again after a break of over 2 years. I don't hate Jeremy.....but I'm suddenly finding his character very hit and miss. In some episodes I find him funny and interesting, but in many others I find him very annoying, smug and generally coming off as a nerdy smart-ass.

I hate him. He's a turd. We get it. You're a genius. No one cares. Why the *beep* are you producing a third rate sports show?? Go cure cancer or something. Pretentious *beep*.
