Does anyone who isn't a sports fan like this?

I'm not that big on sports, but I thought that this was a very good show. I think I checked it out out of curiosity or boredom once and really liked it. Also, I really like Sabrina in Sliders.

Nope but I wish I did when I watch this show. The show certainly helped me to appreciate it

Me too.

I am a huge sports fan BUT my wife hates them with a passion. But she absolutely loves this show. We watch it about once a year and really enjoy it together as I got her hooked on it. I think when she realized it was Sorkin, she got hooked easily as she loves West Wing.

reply

This. The show is not about sports at all, and I can't believe the number of friends who wouldn't even watch it once because of the name. Great dialogue, great cast.

I'm not a fan of sports either. I mean I like participating but not watching but 'Sports Night' is awesome. I was curious because I loved Sorkin's 'The West Wing' and 'Studio 60'.

That's kind of where I am. Not a sports fan, I don't follow anything or watch games on TV, but I enjoy them live. I'm much more of a Sorkin fan. But I think there are a lot of SN fans who are like that, the show isn't really about sports anyway.

Sooner or later, everybody gets theirs. Dollhouse, December 4th on FOX.

reply

Yeah, not a sports fan and I love Sports Night.

This show is a lot like "The League." In that the premise is totally about sports, but the show really isn't.

I think that you make a good point; Sports Night isn't really about sports. I love the show; and to try to analyze it I think that it's because of how verbal it is, now personally involved the characters are with each other, and the kind of style that Aaron Sorkin and Thomas Schlamme bring to it.

Although there were also two real sports shows that got my interest (I think it was around ten years ago); one was something with someone called Jim Rome and the other one was also a show with knowledgeable, opinionated people discussing sports. Their knowledge of the players and the games and the history, and the passion of their convictions, captured my interest in a way that watching sports themselves never had before.

I've always thought that they did themselves a disservice by naming it "SportNight". People not into sports would overlook it in the guide and not even give it a chance simply because "sports" was in the title.

I once heard it said that one of the reasons this show failed was that people who didn't like sports saw "Sports" in the title and didn't turn it on, and people who liked sports turned it on and found out it wasn't about sports.

Another comment that I heard about it was, "The greatest one hour drama on TV is a half-hour comedy called Sports Night."

IMHO, this was the greatest show ever on TV.

The cure for boredom is curiosity. Unfortunately, there is no cure for curiosity.

Liked it for a season but the neurotic female characters got to be too silly. Sports was only secondary to the verbal lunge and parry of the main characters and Robert Guillume was another draw. Sorkin's The West Wing and The Newsroom have become the norm for this kind of show, so I skip the re-runs of it now.

Sports bore me to tears. If every professional athlete in the world dropped off the face of the earth, it might be six months before I noticed and commented,"Say....whatever happened to that big-mouthed guy who used to be on the news right before the weather?"

But I love this show. It actually had more female than male fans in its day, which tells you something.

The same way I hate politics but loved "West Wing." I hate sports but loved "Sports Night." Great writing will do that for you.
