Help with the plot!

OK, I like this film and I've seen it a few times, but I still really don't get this film and why the kids get killed. Han's father said he had his son, Po, killed because Po could compromise his dealings with the NFL dude Roth.

But how? Just by hanging out at the wrong clubs? I assumed Po was working on acquiring the waterfront properties; hence, that's why he had that list in his cane. But was Po doing something else with the list?

Here's what I think happened. Chu, Han's father's sidekick, was just taking orders from Han's father and didn't initiate some separate conspiracy, although he was part of it. Chu killed other Chinese businesses and operations at the behest of Han's father's orders so Han's father could wipe out the Chinese competition and acquire the waterfront property deeds to secure the deal he had with Roth.

Delroy Lindo's sidekick obviously took his orders from Lindo, but why did the sidekick kill Colin? What's the point of the fake war? What conspiracy did he have going with Chu, if any? I am confused

Po was attempting to contact Colin with some information. I think that the two of them were beginning to get wise to the dark deeds going on and so they had to be eliminated. One problem with this is that the only time you see Po he is acting like a regular snot and not giving the impression of a person with qualms about his father's schemes.

The sidekick's name was "Kai", not Chu. Chu IS Han's father.

But how? Just by hanging out at the wrong clubs? I assumed Po was working on acquiring the waterfront properties;

Po wasn't "just" hanging out at the wrong club, he had a REASON to be there, and it was explained in the movie.

Collin O' Day told his father that, Po had previously contacted him on the night he was killed and told him that he had "a little 'something' that could put an end to this war". That "something" was most likely the list he had concealed inside his cane.

The REASON why Po was at the club on that night was because Collin was being abit of a prick. He told his father: "Any way, I didn't trust his ass, so I told him to come meet me at <bar's name>".
Po was hanging around at the club because Collin told him to come there.
Unfortunately, Collin got to the club too late. Chu's men got there before he did and asked Po to come back with them.
If you don't understand what was meant by "compromising our (Chu)dealings with roth" means, Po was probably going to use the list to expose his father's plans.

No he did not! Where did you even get this idea from??

Delroy Lindo's character (Isaac) was planning on going straight. He explained this to Mac (the sidekick) early on in the film. Mac joked about having to search the classifieds for a new job because his boss has decided to go straight.
In his talk with his son (Collin), Isaac also explained to his own son that he was planning to go straight. He told his son that from now, everything he does will be strictly legit and by the book.

When the barber shop got blown up, Isaac was upset by the incident because the man who got blown up was a dear friend of his.
If Mac had been following orders from Isaac, then they wouldn't show that clip of Isaac being upset about the incident would they??

When he (Isaac) got those property deeds, he thought that Mac (the sidekick) had acquired them legally (i.e anything that doesn't involve killing people/blowing them up =P ).
Neither Isaac or Trish were aware that Mac had an agenda of his own.

You'll also notice that in the scene where Mac reveals his betrayal to Isaac, he says to him: " Now me and you have an understanding.. anyone who didn't sign those deeds, WE took care of."
Isaac then asked: "What do you mean..'took care of'??"
If you couldn't pick up any of the subtle hints in the movie that Isaac was planning on going straight, that conversation alone should've clued you in on the fact that Isaac had no idea what was going on behind his back.
(wonder why you didn't figure it out though).

Why did Mac kill Collin? His intentions wasn't cleary stated in the movie, so can only guess..
- Collin was aware of Mac's plot.
There was a small scene in the movie, after Collin left his father's office.
Collin came across Mac and stared at him suspiciously.
Mac then asked him: "something wrong?" then Collin answered: " I dunno, you tell me.".

- Mac was somehow aware of the possibility that Isaac may be planning on joining the NRL instead of settling for the $300 million that was offered to him.
The reason why Isaac wanted to be joint partners with the NRL was because he could have something that is "legal" to pass down to his son (he didn't want his children to grow up in a life of crime).
Mac did not want to be joint partners with the NRL, he wanted the money.
