This film sucked...(THE WHOLE CLASS fell asleep)

So terrible. And the actionjs scenes were sickening especially for someone of Jet Li's standard.

So fake and unrealistic. The script was poor and so was the story. The actors all had potential but had absolutely nothing to nwork with. It seemed like a rush job made to bring in the money which it did do in the end.

I gave it a 2.

Stephen Fry on Jerry Macguire

"Would you be kind enough to exhibit the money"

Your opinion doesn't mean anything to me, but care to explain why you were watching this in class? XD

This time, Effie White's gonna win.

Whitney was wrong. Children are no longer the future.

If this opinion doesn't mean anything why did you bother to comment?

reply

why the hell were you watching this in school?

I'm sure I might have the same reaction since I first saw this movie ten years ago, when I was sixteen, but you have to think about it: RMD was a breath of fresh air circa 2000: it mixed hip-hop with martial arts, there was an interracial relationship (and it was Asian/black!), and it was filled with a mix of semi-known black actors, then-famous black entertainers, and was a starring vehicle for "the next Jackie Chan" Jet Li. To my knowledge, there had never been anything like this released by Hollywood, and there hasn't been again 'til this day. Just take it for what it was: a groundbreaking, entertaining, and cool spin on the Romeo&Juliet tale. It's definitely not Blue-Ray ready, but it's a good way to spend two hours.

It's a so so movie. The kind of movie I only watch when there's nothing else to watch. I do agree that it had a lot of wasted potential.

reply

I agree. I remember when the film first came out and I thought it was great. But today it seems like a product of its time. The scenes with Aaliyah are the only thing that gives this terrible film life. She was simply radiant and she had remarkable screen presence.

May be it was a kung fu class the OP was attending.🐭

reply

That would be strange, because there was no Gung Fu (Chinese boxing) in the film, but, instead, a lot of Wu Shu forms.

And we do all realize that the OP is by now either dead, serving time, or both, right?
