why do they have to kiss? if every movie had people kissing then it would be very boring. if you want kissing scenes then dont watch action movies.

"romeo" must die and also because they do this in almost every other mindless action/romance flick, why should this be any different, oh wait because there is an asian man involved...that's right.

Could be race? A chinese man and a black woman kissing? Today people still haven't become to interracial couples.

If someone like, lets say Matt Damon played Jet Lis role - they would have kissed, had sex, got married and had 5 kids by the end of the movie.

reply

Jet Li never really kisses anyone it seems like most of the women in his movies are just friends.

"Ah, Snaps!"

Whether they did kiss or not in the movie is irrelevant. The movie has been released in theatres and is on DVD now. My question is if there was such a scene why wasn't it included on the DVD under deleted scenes???

lol so true, the bourne identity could just as easily have been successful with franka potente's character marie as just a friend/cohort, but since its damon she instantly falls head over heels in love with him and there is a unnecessary sex scene.

and reversely if chow yun fat had played the part of jason bourne, franka's character would have definitely just been a friend/cohort, much like in the replacement killers with no sex scene of course.

lou diamond phillips is about as asian as donald sutherland. he may be partially but he definitely looks predominately native american/polynesian.

1/4 asian means nothing also, no one ever identifies keanu reeves as an asian man. he is a canadian whiteboy or a white mutt.

dragon is autobiographical (albeit fictional in some parts), his actual wife is white, he also had two eurasian kids as well as many affairs so i don't think hollywood could have asexualized that particular character much less such a beloved asian icon (even white hollywood would not dare).

john cho is one of the very few male asian actors out there currently that can successfully break stereotypes and the negative image of asian men on the silver screen (we can only hope though).

Actually they did do that scene, but they cut it because it didn't look good that he was too old, and it didn't look right.

BS copout there, plenty of old white leads get to have their way with much younger female leads. also Jet Li was only 36 when this premiered and like a lot of asians looked a lot younger than his actual age. basically its ok for sean connery and nicolas cage (many, many others too) but not for jet li because hes an asian man. that aspect alone was what "didn't look right", it had nothing to do with age.

reply

Well, I don't exactly agree with their reasoning either, I was simply stating what I heard at that time. Honestly, I'm not sure how accurate this info really is but I do remember it was something to do with appearance.

And yeah, how disturbing is it that they make Sean Connery have his way with beautiful young actresses but not a thirty-year old asian martial artist? Yet, Jackie Chan is much more older, yet he had a kissing scene with Roselyn Sanchez in Rush Hour 2. I don't know...

not that i condone much older guys embarrassing themselves by fornicating with women young enough to be their daughters, i just find it funny how it applies to many well known older actors with the EXCEPTION of jet li because once again he is an asian man.

this was not even a white woman, which white hollywood is overly protective of, this was a african american chick, white hollywood does not want to portray asian men as love interests for ANY woman period!

lol i know what your saying but that was hardly a 'kissing scene.' it was at the very end of the film, and it was merely a pity peck for a split second, and jackie chan looked like a adolescent schoolboy. it was equivalent to forrest gump soiling himself after seeing robin wright penn in her undies. racist hollywood likes to continue portraying asian men as asexual virgins.

reply

I agree, Asian men have been relegated to the bottom of the list when it comes to sexuality. I find this amazing when you consider how many people live in China! If Asian brothers were so unsexy, how have they managed to produce over 3 billion people? Racism is deep.......

reply

i dont think there was any kissing at all because jet li says he is a very shy guy and doesnt like to do scenes with kissing sex or feeling up a girl

Well Troy and Gabriella didn't kiss in the first HSM either and I'm sure there are other movies were there is no kiss but just emotions

in the replacement killers, chow young fat never kissed his love interest....

bruce lee's wife never kissed a western girl.
jackie chan, yes, but short and brief.

so can anyone tell me??????
even on any TV shows?? did an Asian male kiss a western or african american female???

Cutting out the kissing scene did not have anything to do with Jet Li's race.

It was just inappropriate to include one after a death scene.

uh-huh, i guess changing will smith's initial love interest in hitch from white to hispanic also "had nothing to do with race."

it was just inappropriate for the ignorant bigots of the world.

if you're talking about that brief period after han's dad shot himself then yeah, how about the other 98% of the film? then again the overall interactions between trish and han were very poorly done, making it apparent they had no idea what they were doing in terms of romance in the first place so it might not all have been because of race.

I realize that this post is super old, but I'll answer it anyway:

The show Flashforward has John Cho and Gabrielle Union as love interests. I think they're engaged or something.

I didn't really like the show since, despite its interesting premise, it fell apart very quickly and the main character wasn't particularly likable.

The Walking Dead has the Glenn-Maggie thing, which I was actually very surprised that they didn't whitewash.

There was an old TV movie with Melissa Gilbert where I think she went to Asia and had an affair with an Asian man. It had something to do with a war in that area at the time, if I remember right.

I never seen Jet Li kiss in any of his movies. My mom has those martial arts movie he was in with nothing but Asian and I never seen him kiss the leading Asian lady. I wish in Romeo Must Die and kiss between Aaliyah and Jet would have happened he do look like a shy person.

reply

Jet Li said it wasn't a racial thing. He said that they filmed it both ways: kiss and no kiss. But Jet felt it would be strange for him to kiss Trish right after his father killed himself. So they went with no kiss. Maybe he's lying. I've heard another story that a mostly black test audience didn't like the original kiss ending but I can't find any proof of that.
