Things you would liked to have seen on the show?

1. Laurie back for the finale and straightened out, given what happened to the actress Kitty's remark about her in the final ep now seems rather cruel. Would also have been nice to see Donna's sisters (were they from Bob's previous marriage?).

2. Have Hugh Hefner on the show, maybe Michael could meet him at the Playboy club? Jackie asks to pose but instead he prefers the newly blonde Donna (who's tempted despite her feminism). Outraged Jackie dyes her hair but screws it up and ends up a redhead, having to walk in Donna's shoes for a week.

3. Red stoned, that would be a great ep right there.

4. The gang wonder what life will be like in the 1980s? Kelso suggests a TV show where 2 undercover cops in Miami drive sports cars and wear smart suits but everyone else thinks his idea blows.

5. A couple of punks come to the record store and badmouth Led Zeppelin as old news, Hyde realising he's no longer on the cusp of the music scene.

6. Wonder Woman, I don't think they ever mentioned it despite the fact it was huge at the time. How about Donna, Jackie and Midge all wearing the WW outfit to a Halloween party (Bob could be the Incredible Hulk).

7. Randy comes out of the closet.

8. Midge references Charlie's Angels, maybe showing the girls how to do the pose in Fez's dream sequence.

9. Kitty gives up booze for Lent and becomes a horrific person, the gang intent on getting her drunk again.

10. Donna and Jackie kiss.

11. Police cadet Kelso calls himself 'the future of law enforcement' but Red tells him in the future cops will be robots.

12. Leo gets hit by lightning and gets snapped out of it much to everyone's horror.

A couple took place in the show, more or less.

3. Red along with Kitty, Bob and Midge got stoned when they ate Hyde's special brownies at the yard sale. Foreman and Donna chewed out Red and Kitty in parental fashion as the room spun behind them.

4. In Foreman's "A Christmas Carol" dream sequence, Fez was an early 80's Flock of Seagulls clone singing "I Ran". Not the same as Miami Vice, but it's still the 80's.

I like your idea on 6 and 8. Maybe tweak it a little bit more with:

6. They all show up wearing the WW outfit and run into Lynda Carter in a cameo, who, btw, still looked great during the show's run.

8. Midge needs to wear one of the skimpy outfits she wore in Charlie's Angels during his dream sequence. Jaclyn Smith for a cameo it would make it really kick.

I'm surprised that none of the gang mentioned Rumours by Fleetwood Mac. It was such a huge hit in 1977-1978.

Well, they like other soft rock acts like Bob Seger, The Eagles and Boston. I can also see Kelso and Hyde having a crush on Stevie Nicks, one of the hottest women of the 1970s. I just find it strange that the gang named-checked so many other popular bands, including the divisive ABBA, but didn't even mention Fleetwood Mac, one of the biggest acts in the world. Rumours was a blockbuster smash in 1977/1978. It defines the 1970s as much as Saturday Night Fever, Star Wars, Dark Side of the Moon, Grease and Hotel California. Come to think of it, I'm pretty sure Kelso wears a Fleetwood Mac t-shirt in one episode.

Every time Kitty gets low on sauce she freaks out and Red is usually the one that straitens her out. Great idea though.

The songs in the show were usually tied into the episode's plot or the mood of a scene, so several of the songs could have fit decently with their relationships and breakups.

1. A simple yet obvious reason might be that the writers just didn't like Fleetwood Mac.
2. Maybe the writers simply found other songs they thought fit better with the scenes.
3. Possible legal issues. I don't know how the TV business operates, but I'd assume they would have to pay for usage and/or get permission to use songs. Maybe they weren't able to do so with Fleetwood Mac which had reunited at the time of the show.
4. Radio was saturated with songs from that album for several years, so in a similar vein to #1, maybe the writers were just sick of the songs. A local classic rock radio station had a fetish for Bob Seger about 10 years ago, playing at least one of his songs every 30+ minutes. I can't stand most of his songs any more. I used to like several of them. I now think about destroying things when I hear Like a Rock and The Fire Down Below.

I'm sure there are other viable reasons, but the most easily believable one would be #1.

I can't really think of something I wish they had done on the show, but I do keep thinking that they lost out on a potential spinoff with Hydes record store.
Had they not made that crappy 80's show I think a show centered around Hydes record store would have been good, Hyde Leo and some new characters.
But I guess we'll never know.

Some resemblance to the 1970s. As someone who was a teenager and in my early twenties in the U.S. during that decade, I can testify that this show doesn't look or sound much like it. It fails to capture the spirit of the time.

They tried during the earlier seasons---but like happy days--it faded away in the later episodes.

Laurie who had the farrah hair was gone. Ashton got his long layered david cassidyish hair cut to a current style--and eventually left.

That 70's show was never as big a success as Happy Days bc there were more than 3 networks by the time this aired This wasn't supposed to be a show for the whole family. It was written for the kids specifically. So that's who it was intentionally targeted to re writing.

And the characters who were left weren't really the big ones and were just filler. If Fez left the show could have survived. But Eric leaving was a big issue.

A good equivalent was ALL the Walshes leaving on Beverly Hills 90210--when that show was supposed to have been about them learning adjusting to life from minnesota. Well, sans Walshes....the show lost it's core. Why continue watching?

Instead of the gang freaking out and getting depressed when Donna has to go to an all girls private school for her high school degree....Donna meets her new teachers who are some of "The Facts of Life' former cast members. That other show began in 1979 so it's technically a 70's show. And it was about attending an all girl's private school where you had to wear a uniform. They are impressed with Nancy McKeon's character who even though is a nun (Jo wanted to join a convent) still knows how to ride a bike.
