Product placements galore

Just saw the Ketsup opener with a prominently displayed Heinz bottle. This scene was an entire Heinz ad. But the whole kitchen is stuffed with product placements: Lay's, Aunt Jemima, Jello, Toblerone, Lipton etc. Doug often wears Nike. I could go on forever. I've never seen another tv show with so much product placement before.

As long as they're not verbally mentioning it, then I couldn't care less. It definitely never distracted me before because I never noticed it. I've seen that scene probably 50 times and it's still funny.

reply

I'm not saying it's not funny.

My point was that the product placement never took away from the scene. I never even noticed it before and I've seen it way too many times. Really, the only brand that I've noticed that I thought was absolutely ridiculous was the snap-on box in the garage. That dude would not spend thousands of dollars on a toolbox when he obviously doesn't work on anything.

I’m confused would you want everything to have blank labels that would distracting and unrealistic. If you go in someone’s kitchen you will see named products. It’s not like they are mentioning the products in the show.

reply

Yeah. Having actual products on their homes never really bothered me. Outside of occasionally seeing them drinking beer, say, and thinking; "Hey, O drink that." I hardly notice.

If it's just in the background as part of the set, it's fine. If the character mentions a particular brand name every episode, it'd be different.
