This is a great film...

I just saw that the Milosevic media machine invested in this film... and ended up wishing they hadn't... This is a very gritty depiction of the deprivations of war on a society - in particular it's youth... It's a tough call though because - it can be read two ways (1) as glorifying the struggle as (and i know many will take execption - but what the heck - im drunk) many people from those parts are completely mindF##ked and bar up over behaving like sub-humans and (2) as being an anti-war allegory... I'll be honest - the first time i saw this 6 years ago - i paid praticular attention to the credits and i did see that it had a lot of Govt. backing and i thought: Ok - propaganda... but looking at other quotes the Government kinda got screwed by the filmmakers in terms of the message conveyed - but the messge can only get conveyed if the veiwers are able and willing to understand it...

This movie was great..because i was almost in a similar situation when the war started in Bosnia.

I was 8-9 years old when the *beep* started flying, the taunting of dijabola at the begining is very similar to what some kids got in my country as well..

This movie was like watching my youth essentially, minus the criminal activity.

Other than that, great film. GREAT.

Sme goes with me. It was more like brutal drama than comedy in my eyes and probably all teens that lived in that terrible time.

This is a characteristic of many Yugoslav movies. Many filmmakers got away, because they knew how to hide a message - for those with the eyes to see. That's what Dragojevic did too, although I think he didn't have as dificult task as his predecesors did, because the government wasn't as strong as Tito's, and censors weren't under that much pressure. Better example(for getting away) is " Varljivo leto '68 ". See it and compare.

This is THE POINT.I believe he had decided just to make a kind of a simple, reality based movie (I hope I won't be misunderstood). All of us took part in it(not litteraly). That's exactly how he got away.

I finished high school in Belgrade in 1991. I took off from there not too long after. It's been a while but I still remember pretty much everything. This movie is way over the top. Half of my class in high school wasn't Serb and I don't remember any tension and certainly no tanks on the streets or shooting. What we were seeing on TV and the decay of the society was surreal though. The scum that surfaced at the time had to have come from somewhere I guess and this movie is about them.

That's beacuse u left before old the hell was let loose.
I remember 1993 and all the shotings that happend from '90 to '95 (though they never finished until 2001)
