Was Storm Riders originally a TV series? I saw it back once in raw at Japan's WOWOW channel, it ran in 3 episodes with one episode running for almost an hour. I couldn't understand it but I know how the story progressed. As far as I can remember, (spoiler)

it showed the fight between Wind's father and Lord Conquer and how Cloud's father and his clan was slain by Lord Conquer. It also explained (though I could hardly understand) how Cloud got a new arm and where he got it. And there were other scenes that were missing in the movie. I got the International edition (the dubbed one). Were these also in the Director's Cut?

first came the comic, which happens to still be hong kongs top selling title despite the struggling market
(note: the comic storyline is now in it's 3rd chapter)

then came the movie in 98
a sequel was originally planned around 2000 produced by Andy Lau, but due to lawsuits, the project was put on delay and eventually given up on.

not too long after the movie came out, Taiwan produced an under budget television miniseries of it that lasted 40 episodes, this series was more closely based on the comic's 1st chapter including most characters and storylines

from the popularity of the first series, another series was made in '04 i believe based on the 2nd chapter of the storyline

and next year, a 3rd series will be made but produced by CCTV, china's largest tv station; thus, budgets and expectations are high
