Sequel?

Pang Brothers directing with the possibility of Aaron and Ekin returning? Sounds good to me.

I would love to see a movie about Nameless, they could call it "A Tale Of No Name".

You know I was watching a Kung Fu movie and I saw Hwang jang Lee and the outfit he had on, the hair style and the way he was fighting as a "Master" he looked a little like Nameless.

What a Nameless he would have been...

reply

Whoo, watching those clips brought back memories of Mr. Lee. Unfortunately, he has long since retired unless he came out of it in the past year or so since I read that bit of info.

And I would love to see a movie about Nameless, but if they were to make one based on the "Tale of No Name" novels, Mr. Lee wouldn't be in it at all unless they decide to have a 64 year-old man play a 16 year-old.

Hehehehe! It’s more like wishful thinking… I wish Lee were younger so he could play Nameless but I know there’s no way that could happen. Do you know any asian actor who could play Nameless?

You know if they were to make a film about Nameless they should at least do two or three of them… and maybe by the time of the second or third one... Jien Chen could show up;)

reply

I thought the actor in the Wind and Cloud series that played Nameless looked sorta like him. You can check it here: http://www.spcnet.tv/tinha/tv_who.shtml
Other than that, no other actors pop into my head at the moment. Maybe, just maybe, Tony Leung could pass off as Nameless. I saw him in Hero, and if he had a more bushy mustache and more rugged hair, he could be Nameless.

Personally I'd love to see an adaptation for each novel. It features Nameless, Hiro, Po Kuan, and a young Sword Saint. Wind, Cloud, and Duan Long would make a small appearance as well. These films would offer everyone something. The drama comes from his childhood, the action comes from the many battles and the hunt for the two Hero Swords, romance from Nameless and his adopted sister {ok bad example). But you get the point.

I'm not sure about how I feel with Jien Chen showing up. I suppose it could work. Which reminds me, where has that fool been in the comic? Even Sword Saint I showed up. >_<

I have thought about Tony Leung being Nameless... but I'm not a 100% sure. They should do more than just two or three movies of Storm Riders, they should do more so we can see other characters. For Jien Chen to show up in a Nameless movie we could see him when he was really young, when Nameless was training him.

You know maybe they should do several animated mini series of the other characters since there have been many. Maybe they should also do several video games of the characters.

Where's Jien Chen? That's something only the writer himself would know. After coming back from being... possess I guess... he left... that's as far as I know. As much as I like Jien Chen... maybe his time in Storm Riders should come to an end (by that I don't mean death)... maybe he should stop and get as far away from everyone as he can and... retire. I mean if the writer is just going to have him making one mistake after the other... then I don't see the point of him still being in Storm Riders. Now I'm not saying that characters like Jien Chen shouldn't have there ups and downs in a story but... the writer just keeps this happening to him.

reply

I can see Jien Chen showing up as a little kid being trained by Nameless. I can imagine an ending where Nameless is training a young Jien Chen and another boy walks inside and demands training from Nameless. (Cloud). That would be a perfect way to end a trilogy of Nameless films.

I'm surprised at the fact no one jumped onto making an animated series yet. They are just starting with animation with the Clash of the Evils now. There's so much story to tell and with no boundaries on the character backgrounds, fights and stuff, this could be an epic series that could dethrone a lot of current anime.

I tried playing the Storm Riders video game, just didn't get into it. Shame really, because like an animated series, a video game based on Storm Riders would kick just too much ass. In fact, any wuxia-type game would kick ass. Bujingai: The Forsaken City was a great game for what it was.

I myself am getting frustrated with the many characters not doing anything. Jien Chen is long gone. So is Little Wu, the two girls he was with, Juet Sum, Yi Fung, Bou Tin, you name them they're gone. Wind got a decent showing, but then left. Cloud came back with Wie Hung's brother...who is now gone. Its good that old characters (Sword Saint II, Shen Feng, Blue Wu, and the one and only Nameless) have reappeared, but they just keep slapped new characters like this new Juet Sum-esque dude into the mix.

Oh Mr. Ma, why are you such a complicated writer and write such long stories that would be classics if they just ended when they should?

By the way, I gotta admit I like talking about Storm Riders with other people. Since no one else outside of the internet likes SR as much as me and the only English forum I know that has members that like SR is messed up to the point I can't register, and the fact that other SR forums are in Chinese, you got any instant messaging thing where we can keep talking about SR? I like these conversations a lot. ^_^

I have heard about the Clash of the Evils animated movie coming and hopefully they'll make more.

I have seen pictures of the Storm Riders video game... and I have to say that it didn't look good at all.

For me a Storm Riders video game shouldn't be a V.S game but should be a "Role Playing Game" and even a "Choose Your Own Adventure" where we can play Nameless, Cloud, Wind, Jien Chen and even the bad guys and they all would each have different adventures.
Now as for combat in the game... maybe a mix between... Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic I-II (having Force like powers but being far more powerful) Bujingai: The Forsaken City, Devil May Cry and Virtua Fighter (having all kinds of different fighting moves and fighting dozens of people).

Let me ask you something, do you know how long Storm Riders will go on? Has the writer done spinoffs of characters that I'm not aware of? Where some of the other characters get there own title... because maybe he should do that. Like "Storm Riders: Stories of Nameless" or "Storm Riders: Jien Chen The Beginning" or "Storm Riders: Wind"... and so on.

The only Storm Riders Form that I know of is this one. I'm not a member over there.

"you got any instant messaging thing where we can keep talking about SR? I like these conversations a lot. ^_^"

Hahahahahaha!;) :)

That's exactly what I would want. An RPG where you can choose from a different variety of characters and play through their story. I imagined the combat system as a mix of Bujingai and Ninja Gaiden.

Well, Mr. Ma's other series Chinese Hero went on for a long time until he himself up and left and the series eventually ended. His other series Black Panther has been around I think just as long as SR and is even longer than SR is. So, until he runs out of ideas, goes bankrupt, leaves the company, I don't think we'll ever see SR come to an end. Shame really, there could have been many ways to make a grand ending. Who knows, maybe Mr. Ma is trying to pull a Tony Wong and go for 1000+ issues.

Anyway, other than the spin-off where it was set in the future (and in the Three Kingdoms period), there are tons of novels based in the world. The Tale of No Name novels are part of this series and there are plenty more. I'm not sure what they are about, but by the looks of things I'm sure they give insight to the other characters. You can check them here: http://us.yesasia.com/en/prdGrpDept.aspx/section-comics/code-c/version -hk/pid-101122/

And the DrMaster site is the one I was referring to. I would love to join, but the registration thing is corrupted and I can't register properly.

And I take the "Hahahahahaha!;) :)" as a no. ^_^

Maybe after they do another movie someone will get the idea to make a game or two of Storm Riders and make many like the Resident Evil games.

A 1000 and + issues... I can see Ma doing that.

Well... I can only talk about Storm Riders for so long. The artwork is only one of three reasons (the other two being Nameless and Jien Chen) why I still try to keep up with what goes on in Storm Riders. I'll try to come here and talk about ST from time to time.

I see.

Well, in other news, a sequel is most definitely in the works with the Pang Bros. and Ekin and Aaron coming back. Assuming the info I read is correct, the movie is following the Japanese Invasion story with Simon Yam playing Juet Mou San and Nicholas Tse as Juet Sum. Charlene Choi is joining as Wind's wife Second Dream and newcomer Tiffany Ma is replacing Shu Qi in the role of Chor Chor. The film will also be doing a 300 and film almost entirely on blue screen with months of post-production until a release in October of '09.

Hmm...I'm having mixed feelings. Hate to sound like a spaz, but here goes. I'm glad Ekin and Aaron are coming back. That's great. I'm happy that Simon Yam and Nicholas Tse are joining. I'm also happy they are following a new arc and finally leaving Conquer behind. What I'm not happy about is the cast so far. Simon Yam and Nicholas Tse is great, but they were most definitely not in my mind for the roles of Juet Sum and Juet Mou San. And Charlene Choi as Second Dream came as a shock. I would've never imagined her in this type of movie (Even though Twins Effect 2 was some wuxia-ish movie). I just can't see her in that role. As for Tiffany Ma, can't comment on her since I've seen nothing from her. Hopefully the cast do a wonderful job.

You know just imaging Nicholas Tse with the Juet Sum hair is hilarious. And with it following the Japanese Invasion story, I wanna see some Po Kuan action with Nameless, Jien Chen, Wind finally losing an eye for the first time in the live action stuff, and his crazy Demon Sabre skills. Oh how I dream.

More character concept art has shown up.

By the looks of it, Po Kuan is in it! And even better.....NAMELESS! The Ghost Ninja also appear while Juet Mou San (I think the one standing in front of a fire holding a mask) looks insane, but I prefer his original design a bit more. Seems they didn't give Nicholas Tse Juet Sum's original look either. Hmm..we'll see how that goes.

As for Dream and Chor Chor, I see they're going with the bit where Dream doesn't wanna show herself to Wind and Chor Chor looks lovely. I'm sill a bit iffy on Charlene as Dream, but I'm usually wrong anyways.

It is a stretch (since he's not dressed very elegant), but he has the Nameless look.

Yeah, when I picture Nameless I picture him dressed elegantly in his Mandarin or Shaolin Wudang Kung Fu gown or tunic.

Getting back to a Storm Riders video game... I would love to be able to do this.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=KaLbdsDHx7k

To be Nameless and to take on that many people.

reply

Interesting. Nameless didn't use his feet that much though and if you want to be able to do that, might as well just play Dynasty Warriors.

However, I wouldn't mind waiting until technology got further developed and people started toying with the ideas of blocking strikes mid-air and then kicking back. That would make superb gameplay.

I'm gonna get you, like a spaceboy. Whoa whoa whoa whoa!!!

reply

Well Hwang Jang Lee knew Tae Kwon Do and not Kung Fu.... at least I don't think so. I played one of the Dynasty Warriors game... and I didn't like it. To me it seemed too much of a kid's game.

Too add more ideas for a Storm Riders video game... maybe the graphics would be like the type that Metal Gear or Resident Evil have, the action would be violent like Onimusha or God of War whether your using your hands, feet or using a weapon.

I wouldn't mind waiting for that type of technology with gameplay. We would need that type of gameplay for a Storm Riders video game.
