DVD?

Any DVDs out that would work for an English-only speaker?; preferably subtitled and widescreen but if not OAR and dubbed I think I would be desperate enough to get that anyway

Hey Limptriple, I bring good tidings. Saw this movie in a London cinema 25 years ago, and ever since then have been desperate to see it again, but no dice. Until the other week, when I saw a Region 2 DVD was available in Japan. I bought it on spec via mail-order, not expecting it to have English subtitles, but to my delight they're all present and correct, even though they weren't indicated on the website. Haven't watched it all the way through yet - the blacks look a little washed out and it doesn't seem to be in widescreen - but I'm happy to put up with that since I don't suppose it's going to get any sort of British or American release any time soon. Can't tell you any other details about the disc since the cover-notes are all in Japanese, and it's a little on the pricey side, but check out Yesasia.com or, if you can negotiate your way around the kanji, the Japanese Amazon site. Cheers.

From Home Vison Ent. site:

http://www.homevision.com/detail.cfm?productID=31792

"Famed director Yoshitaro Nomura (Castle of Sand, The Incident) and bestselling Japanese mystery author Seicho Matsumoto combine forces on The Demon (Kichiku), a chilling and complex tale of betrayal and murder. A strange relationship develops between a man, his wife, and his mistress, and a young boy becomes the pawn in a dangerous game of passion and intrigue that ends in a shocking climax. Photographed in sumptuous color, The Demon will keep the most avid mystery buff guessing as it weaves an unforgettable tale of greed, lust, and obsession."

HVE also states 1977 as original release year.

This is not the same film as SHURA directed by Toshio Matsumoto and released 1971.

Just to set the record straight.
