I wouldnt say its a very good film by any standards (poor picture quality, dodgy subtitles, meandering plot), but its not without its charms and actually quite enjoyable in places (such as a fight scene halfway through that took me by suprise and the last 15 minutes or so).

Ive recently seen the 2003 Zatôichi and i have "...meets the one armed swordsman" and "...in Desperation" to see next.

Dude *every* Zatoichi movie is a good movie, period.

I've been churning through the Zatoichi movies through Netflix and just got done with Zatoichi meets Yojimbo last week. After seeing Katsu and Mifune together in a Zatoichi film I wondered why Tatsuya Nakadai never appeared in one. It really caught me by surprise when he popped up here. I had scanned his movie list on imdb but this one apparently got through.

Having seen all of the previous Zatoichi's in sequence, this one was definitely one of the more enjoyable ones. Not sure if it was because of Nakadai's presence or not, but the usual hour and 30 minutes of Zatoichi seemed to burn by a lot quicker here.

This is easily the most bizarre Zatoichi film so far in the series... but altogether one of the most entertaining!
