Apperently sometime in WinXP prevents me from playing the game because it's DOS. I am not a computer expert, but is there any way of getting around this? Thanks!
I shall call him Squishy, and he shall be mine, and he shall be my Squishy.
You might want to try DosBox and D-Fend. DosBox is a DOS emulator used to run DOS apps on WinXP. It uses a command line just like DOS, although some commads are different. D-Fend is a frontend launcher for DosBox. You run DFend, tell it where to find the setup and exe files (no pun intended), and it'll load your DOS game all set to play. The most rececent DOS game I've used with it is Duke Nukem 3D and it's worked fine. It should be worth a shot on X Files.
Right click on the Shortcut icon to it. Click 'Properties'. Click 'Compatibility'. Check the 'Run this program in compatibily mode for:' box. Then, from the drop down list, select the OS that the game recommends (look at the box/case that the game came in, under 'System Requirements')
The game really doesn't work on XP. I've tried everything. Compatibility changes and wizard. Can't get it to work. Heard there are patches, does anyone have one or know where i can find it? I really want to play my favorite game again.
Does the game throw up an error message when you try to play it? Mine did that a few times under XP, got the "X Files has encountered a problem and needs to close" b/s. If you did get an error, copy it here and I might be able to help you.
i can't believe there isn't some way to get it to work on XP. I got the PC version to work on Mac OSX (Snow Leopard) with a little app called Wineskin...
You gotta do research.
I thought the game was fun because I love the show so much but it's seriously outdated. Can't wait to play the newer one....
I had no bigger problems playing it on xp, but a bug occured that didn't let me continue to play the game. don't know if its xp related or not though...
