awful

what a waste of time. anyone who thinks this is good anime is obviously under the age of 16, and enjoys watching dragon ball z.

reply

I admit it's not "good" anime, but if i'm in the mood for some mindless crazy action it does the job fine. Very entertaining but not a lot of substance.

reply

"mindless crazy action" - where's the problem :)

reply

Yeah, this was completely retarded, I just finished watching it.

blackdumbasswatchamacallit, it seems you fail at telling the difference between good and bad anime. Spriggan was superbly executed which you did not grasp. Awesome animation with a unique storyline, but there are always critics here and there.

Too bad for you that you did not like it, maybe because the only thing retarded around here is that thing you call a face.

Im a big anime fan and Im not 16. I enjoyed it .I thought it was a mixture of sci fi and cyborg heroics Indiana Jones style. It rocks the anime house.Everyone is different and I respect the opinions of others.

reply

Well, I will go ahead and admit that I am 16, but that doesn't mean it is a bad movie, I enjoyed this movie, and I believe this is a work of art, just like Akira, Metropolis, or even Princes Mononoke.

To write a detailed critique of the movie, I would require a second painful viewing, something I don't want to subject myself to.
I admit it is weak to state an opinion without a backing argument, but do I really need to rip this movie apart to show what it really is?

i know! it's sooo anime. you got a spikey haired, young hero. who is an ultra bada$$ soldier, but is somehow a regular high school kid! you got ancient alien technology that can rule the world. you've got a evil psionic little bastard for the main bad guy. and cool cyborgs! this movie kicks butt!

hey *beep* im over 16, dbz is a classic.

reply

If this was bad, I'd like to know what you think is good.

This movie kicked so much. It's been a while since I've seen an anime that I've wanted to watch over and over. Your favorites would have to be damn near flawless in every way for me to even notice anything bad about this one.

reply

ok i just watched this movie, and i didnt love it, but also didnt hate it. it has its good parts and its bad parts. one of my main criticisms is the lack of depth in the storyline. much of it is just senseless action, pointless violence, which is not in itself a bad thing, but it is when you're trying to be serious by having heavy philosophical content, and biblical references etc. which i loved, but they didnt explore enough. also, this is just me, but i get sick of seeing the cliche characters in anime. the spikey hair, the understated too-cool-for-you softly spoken guy, and crazy angry yelling a-la (hate to reference it) dbz style. but thats just me.

People who do not like this movie aren't willing to pay attention and take in the deeper meaning of it. They look at the blank face of it and think "action and no content". They neglect to see the inner conflict of religion, science, and politics that this speaks so much about. It's about ethics, there lengths we'll go to complete what we believe to be correct, and the greed, power, and eccentricity of the human mind.

Among other things.

I'm not 16, I do like DBZ, but not the american version, which both sucks and leaves out 90% of the plot. But that has nothing to do with my ability to understand and like good anime. DBZ is entertaining (though Dragon Ball is better. and funnier). So saying people who like DBZ instantly suck is both wrong and something that makes you far less credible.

Three things that really ruined it for me:

Near the end, the last thirty or so minutes, it gets REALLY weird. The weird sci-fi-- strange stuff, where the main villian is just as weird as everything happening.

Then, the fact that there was almost NO character developement. Now, don't get me wrong, I couldn't care less about dramatic scenes, or a leading lady, or any of that stupid garbage.
But it was like, a steady stream of the story without any -- anything in between, no light-hearted moments or anything like that.

Third, at least fourty percent of the ENTIRE movie was scenery being shown.

It had the makings of greatness, especially with the incredibly smooth and steady flow of animation.
It just. . . well, I guess to put it simply, it was boring.
The action scenes were INCREDIBLY animated and cool, but lost a lot of the feel by not having much of a movie.
I don't consider this the type of 'mindless action' that I like.

Wish I could like it-- at the first twenty minutes I thought I would. . . but meh. . . .

I only have one question for this post: How much character developement would you expect to happen in a 90 minute movie?

This isn't a crappy teen movie, you know.

Why does everything I watch have to be a "Blade Runner" or "Akira" or "Ghost in a Shell"? I want to have some mindless fun every once in a while, and Spriggan does that job well, and with much class might I add. The animation was superb, (we're talking about Studio 4 C, here), and the storyline/plot wasn't horrendous.
