Different time period

Does this movie take place in a different time period? I know the book was
made in 1945 and it looks like it takes place in a different time in the movie?
Is it true?

It doesn't look modern, looking at the clothes. I looks like it is from the 40s - 60s.

It probably does take place a while ago. Almost all the taxis are Checker cabs, and they have been hard to come by for a long long time. The last two or three were retired about four years ago.

that's true, but everything else seems a bit modern

The Littles are only old fashioned to show how prim and proper they are. Note that its actually the parents. Theyre Stepford parents in New York... It works.

I agree. Lots of intentional anachronisms here! The costumes are from 40's and 60's but they have remote control boats, and a seventies-style police station.

Ah, but in Stuart Little 2 remember the boys were playing playstation??

I think its one of those movies that doesn't really have a particular point in time. It's kinda like a made up world where everything is different like they way they dressed. Clearly some of the things in this were very modern, but then again there were also old things... a few movies have done this.

PS2, in fact. A good 45 years difference in time, from the October 26, 2000 release of the PS2.

I agree, it seemed like the time period was intended to be around the 50s or 60s because of the outfits.
