very un-Shah Rukh-y

This is the one movie where I actually went- Who is this guy? And what has he done with Shah Rukh?.... None of the hamming, lip quivering, sarcastic eyebrow raising, the works. I felt I saw the character potrayed, rather than the superstar.

The picture below is certainly one of the looks that I have never seen him do before:

Swades, Chak de India, Yes Bos, KHKN, RBGG - for more of the same, no super-stardom, just fine acting.

'A wed wose, how womantic'

I haven't seen the above movies (they are all going on my wish-list now)..

As for KHKN, though i havent seen it- many people have said that it was one of the best performances. Since he wasn't a superstar then, there was no pressure of playing to an audience who knew what to expect from him.

Now-a-days, mimicry artistes have a field day imitating him. They may do a K-k-k-kiran (Darr) or Paro, mein aa raha hoon (Devdas), or I am cool (Kuch Kuch Hota Hai) but Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa's Sunil stays untouched

Its too bad, isn't? Instead of being explored as an actor, filmmakers just want to capitalise on his "romantic boy image"...

Shah Rukh's potrayal of "Amar" from Dil Se will always be my favorite character.....

Yes, it is indeed a very unShahrukh performance but imo 'Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa', 'Yes Boss', 'Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman' etc are his best. Raniji names some very good ones too. Also 'Pardes' has a very good performance by him and a great performance by his female lead.

I wish he did more movies like this. I really miss the old SRK

I love SRK's movies. I know he overacts at times but, My Name Is Khan was great, even though the script had problems. Dil Se rips your heart out. Boss is always a favorite. Shakti was a small role, but another tear-jerker. I love Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman. I have to add Billu, which, yes, had a bit of over-acting,but the ending was superb. I am a real fan not only of his acting, but of his personal style and beliefs.

I have always thought he is a fine actor but everybody sees him as an overactor which I totally disagree with. If there is anybody who overacts all the time then its Salman Khan. He canĀ“t act for peanuts and I do like him. But SRK not only acts well but he is beautiful, especially in Dil Se. He takes my breath away that is for sure.

I absolutely agree. When you see this movie you don't think, "This is Sharukh Khan" because he doesn't play it that way. It's one of the first times that I've seen his true ACTING. I wish he did more roles like this.

Yeah, I'm a huge srk fan but I never thought too much of his actual acting...until I saw Dil Se. i definitely wish he did more stuff like this. i think the big difference is, in a lot of his other movies (K3G, KKHH etc.) the situations change and the character stays the same...in Dil Se the situations change but the character changes even more, he is barely recognizable from who he was in the beginning...
i was really blown away by everything in this movie...

Like the guy above me said, its a Mani Ratnam Film. Not a SRK film, Mani Ratnam can make any one act amazing

I feel like I've watched a different movie than everybody else: I generally like Shah Rukh Khan, but in this movie I thought he extremely overacted at times, and the reason was possibly that he had been miscast. It was especially obvious in the presence of his female co-star (who is absolutely superb). She gave a top-class performance which transcended the country or the genre of the film. For me she took the film much further than a regular Indian movie. Shah Rukh on the other hand was not on his best, especially when portraying his character's naivete. In the more dramatic scenes however he was very good. Thus my verdict - his performance was very uneven.

one the best srk performance

Dil se rocks, nice acting by all 3, preity zinta ,SRK and manisha.

better love story than the likes of rab ne banadi jodi and all

It is an SRK film, he doesn't have to be a romantic film to be an SRK film. Go watch swades, chak de india, my name is khan, kabhi haan kabhi naa, yes boss, raju ban gaya gentlemen etc - all SRK films.
