Question about Soneji (Spoilers)

This is just for the fans because I see a lot of haters on this board, and I happen to like the movie. Maybe not the best movie but certainly not as horrible as some on here make out. But what I'm wondering is since Soneji wasn't the one who got the jewels, and he wasn't a sexual predator, what was his motive in taking the girl? Notoriety?

Fiction is a lie, and good fiction is the truth inside the lie.--Stephen King

Psychopaths don't necessarily need a reason. But there was a hint whe he was talking to Cross about setting fire to his parent's house. The first time he was in the newspaper. Plus he thought he could outdo "the crime of the century." So I think you're right, notoriety, for the most part with a hint of ego.

He took the girl to get to the Russian President's kid, Dimitri. He knew the girl and the boy were friends and passed electronic notes so he took her and started sending him fake notes from her to lure the boy out so he could kidnap the boy. He wanted to be famous and pull off the biggest kidnapping of all time. That's what gets Cross to suspect the girl wasn't the real target since her parents weren't really that special. If Sonji had gotten the son of the Russian President, it would have made bigger news.

Yes that's right, kidnapping the son of the Russian president would be the crime of they century.
