Anyone else feel Denzel would have been better as Alex Cross?

Not only this, I always rate Denzel far higher than Morgan Freeman.

My Favs: Hurt Locker, A Beautiful Mind, Schindler's List, Inglourious Basterds

Nope.

Funny, I always prefer Freeman over Denzel. I don't quite get the appeal of Denzel. Can't stand him really.

Yes, yes, yes!

I have no problem with Morgan Freeman and generally I like him in most things but after reading a few of the books, Alex Cross WAS Denzel Washington - I couldn't imagine anyone else.

Also, in this film having Morgan be a lot older than Jezzie meant that their romantic frisson was never there and in the book that went a long way to him overlooking her involvement in stealing the ransom money, which I think was more believable.

Jezzie was rubbish in this film - poor acting or poor writing, whatever but this was not a good role for Monica Potter.

No.
Denzel has a tendency to yell loud in all of his films. I don't call that great acting, i call that hamming...

I agree with you.
While Denzel might have been closer in age to Cross (at the time),
I'm not sure he could have captured Cross's calm, melancholy wisdom that Freeman does so well.
Maybe now, 15 years later, but not in 2001.

On the other hand, I think I'd rather watch Jimmie "Dyn-o-mite" Walker playing Alex Cross
than to ever have to watch Tyler Perry in the role again!

I actually like both men, but Freeman was very good here. He's good, period.

I never read the books. However, I liked Morgan Freeman in this role.
