Murder Motel

Confusing episode - why did Burns (Edward Judd) turn up at the motel at all?

Just watched this episode again after all these years; oddly enough it's one of two "Thriller"s that always stayed in my mind, not least because of Robyn Millan's extraordinary, seemingly acid-fuelled performance.

You're right, though: Judd's character showing up at the motel seems to be nothing more than a plot device to forestall the revelation of his secretary as the real culprit. Having said that, one could posit that they were both involved, that he was set to meet her at the motel, and that she double-crossed him. But if that was the intention, it wasn't made plain in the writing.
