Are The Temptations the unluckiest music group? They certainly had their share of heartaches. The other contenders I can think of are Def Leppard, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Badfinger.

I just heard that Tommy Ramone passed away yesterday. Tommy was the last original member of The Ramones.
When I was a kid I heard Led Zeppelin were cursed.

It actually seems that all these oldies groups had their fair share of bad luck. I The Five heartbeats was loosely based on The Dells. That movie had alot of turmoil but at least the group members reformed towards the end. The Temptations, however, their journey had so many lows. Thats why if I had a singing talent, I would avoid being in a group because there just seems to be so much drama.

John Curulewski - guitar - Passed away in 1988 from a brain aneurysm
Chuck Panozzo - bass - Living with HIV
John Panozzo - drums - Passed away in 1996 from gastrointestinal hemorrhaging
James Young - guitar - the only original member left in Styx
John "J.C." Curulewski left the band in 1975. He was only 37 years old when he passed away. John Panozzo was only 47 when he passed. In 1999 Dennis DeYoung was afflicted with a chronic fatigue syndrome-like disorder that affected his trigeminal nerve and made him unable to perform onstage due to a sensitivity to bright light. DeYoung asked his bandmates to delay touring, but they decided to carry on with singer-pianist Lawrence Gowan. Chuck Panozzo left Styx in 1999. He sometimes joins the band onstage as a guest. James "J.Y." Young is the only Styx member who has appeared on all their albums.
I was just thinking about Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes. Lloyd Parks is the sole survivor of the original Blue Notes.

IMO the Jackson's is the No.1 unluckiest group/family. They are all messed up.
shareI think DeBarge has been unluckier than The Jacksons. Both recorded for the Motown label. James DeBarge was married to Janet Jackson in 1984. That marriage was annulled in 1985. I think all six Debarge brothers were drug addicts and/or incarcerated. Bobby DeBarge passed away from AIDS complications in 1995 at 39 years old.

Not to mention the DeBarges were (allegedly?) violated by their own Father. How their story of 2 different-very successful (R&B wise) groups, a younger brother that also made a name for himself as a solo artist, an even younger DeBarge (Chico) made a name for himself as a solo artist,...with all that abuse, drugs, illness, deaths, jail,...
If I were in the business, this would've been a one-month saga on TV 15 yrs ago.
